Same here ! I think I submitted around 4:30 pm . Save the pdf that you have submitted.

Strange! Yes have saved copy of PDF and email. Thanks panickymum for your response. I will keep you posted here about responses from MOE (if any) and my child FT.

      Thank you[/quote]
      Panickymum,

Here is an update: today when we went to school to submit the preference form hardcopy, the staff informed us (post checking their systems) that our online application was indeed successful.

I also called MOE and they confirmed too that our preference submission has been recorded in their systems successfully. The lady answering my call said that the SMS was prepared yesterday morning and was sent out to all parents who had not made submissions as of yesterday morning. So nothing to worry about πŸ™‚

Want to check if any other parents encounter following issue: we submitted our DSA preference form and also got an acknowledgement from MOE. However this evening we received another email and SMS from MOE stating that we have not exercised our choice and have time till tomorrow.

Since the email and SMS was received after office hours, we could not call MOE.

Tomorrow we will alert our child's FT about the same , probably submit the hardcopy form to general office (not sure if this can still be done) and call MOE. Anything else we can do?

My child has a CO from both RI and NUS High. He has a keen interest in Computing other than Math and Science. He wants to go to NUS high. We were ok with his choice, as ultimately he is the one going through the rigours of the curriculum. With news now out that there is going to be a new principal, I want to know, if this changes anything - in terms of how the school will be led in future.

The teachers in Computing are very capable and conscientious. They have been there before the tenure of the current principal.

There has been no changes except that it became a compulsory subject instead of an elective.

Students taking part in Computing Olympiads go to NUS School of Computing for training. NUS SOC also offers undergrad modules for NUS High students. It is just a couple of bus stops away.

ks2010: Appreciate you taking time out to write. I was not aware of these pointers as well as the contributions of Dr Hang. It is reassuring.

      Thanks 😊

      Thanks Albon.

Your second para resonates with our thoughts as well. We were keen on these two pointers as well, i.e. " wide tertiary admission network and strong internal process to move the school consistently from strength to strength".

Your thoughts combined with those of myrick88 and dyh really helped put things in perspective for us.

      Many thanks.

Dyh: thanks for your inputs. Interesting.

It’s a wait and watch situation then. One just has to go by their gut instincts and hope their child thrives in the chosen environment.

Myrick88: Thanks for your inputs. I heard as well that the current principal was quite an accomplished student. In that sense , and what I heard from some parents about the school flourishing under her leadership,I felt she was apt to helm a specialised school such as NUS High.

Not to take away anything from the new principal.

Just that , we are now confused as to whether choose RI or NUS High. Amongst other things, the captain of the ship (aka principal) also matters (this is just my opinion).

      Hi,

I require some advice from parents of children who are enrolled in NUS high currently.

I heard that the current principal Mrs Lee Bee Yan was very effective in her role and the school really flourished under her leadership.

This will help us in making a final decision.

      Thanks

      Hi,

This is a note to experienced parents in this group who have gone through DSA process for NYGH and RGS. This question is on behalf of a friend. Your inputs will be very useful.

My friend's DD is in P5 this year, in a neighbourhood school in mainstream. With a keen interest in CL, they are targeting either NYGH or RGS for 2020 DSA via CL. I have outlined her DD profile below, please let me know from your experience what the chances are for a shortlist:

      a) Her DD scores A* consistently in all subjects since P2.
      b) She has opted for HMT (CL) and has scored distinction.
      c) In P2 she was one of the finalists and the youngest member for the National Story Telling Competition organised by Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan and Singapore Middle School Chinese teachers association.
      d) From P3 onwards she has won top prize in the written competition held by the institutions mentioned in Pt C above.
      e) She has been a prefect from P3 and has great feedback from teachers about her character.
      f) She regularly participates in Maths and Science Olympiad competitions winning gold/silver.
      g) She is a Grade 5 both in piano and violin.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Wow, impressive. There are some things top schools are likely to look out for, such as P5/P6 results must be consistently good. Best if have competition certs. And this girl shows leadership qualities, I think she stands a good chance to be selected by both schools for an interview!

      :ugogirl:

      Thanks for your inputs lee_yl. πŸ˜„ πŸ˜„

Thanks in advance for your help.

Depending on the type of olympiads, gold and silver sounds not bad. If p6 smops she can get gold and above and Ripmwc Distinction, can consider math domain if she is keen.

thanks Jedamum. She does have an inclination to science and math too. Will pass on this viewpoint to her parents.
