But as a parent, I don't need my DS to be No.1 in everything.

I think we need to watch out for mental health being.I had a relative whose teenager went into teenage depression and it is no joke. it can turn the family topsy-turvy and that's the last I'll wish for.

I agree with you totally n I am sure a lot of parents have the same thinking as you.

But as a Singapore student, do you have a choice? If your CCA says you must stay back 3-4 times a week, can your child don't turn up? Can you tell the teacher that no, you don't want your child to spend so much time in CCA? Don't forget CCA is compulsory to get the 2 extra points.

Yups. as it is, my DS stays back for CCA 3 times a week.... Tiring.
I've let him be as independent as he can, make him responsible for his CCA, homework etc. My nephew just got into Nanyang Poly and my sis-in-law told me entrance to Poly does not consider the 2 extra CCA points.

If your child's school set a lot of tests, remedial classes, homework, can you say no? If your child's grades slide in comparison with the class standard n you get called up by teacher, how?

I don't understand why must CCA be so intensive in Secondary school

Especially with many more subjects in Secondary school, time is obviously not enough. Does it make sense to stay back in school for so many days

dd stays back in school for 4 days. 2 days due to CCA, 1 day for 3rd language, 1 day for I don't know what. I find that this is too much

Our MOE wants our students to have a holistic education.

You must be excellent not only in studies but also in CCA.

Don't forget - Singapore has to be No 1 in everything.

Hi everyone, hope all our kids have settled nicely into their Sec Schools.

For tuition, I’ll continue with Chinese first. I think give them a few months to experience the tests etc, their ability to cope with many new subjects before subjecting them to tuition.

My girl will be in Rulang next yr. Any parents whose children are already there to share their experiences? Heard that this school is very academics driven. Is it true?

      Hi Kaylabb,

Welcome to Rulang Pri School ! I've got 2 sons there. ( One in P6 this year and one in P2).

In my opinion, yes, its pretty academic, but at the same time, the curriculum is broad. At P1 onwards, the children are exposed to Pottery lesson & Chinese calligraphy ( during one of those terms). Not all primary schools have such curriculum. Compared to other primary schools, the test papers set are of a higher standard. But nothing to worry about in Pri 1. Just monitor her performance in school, and let her enjoy her P1 & 2. The real stress sets in in primary 4 onwards.

      All mummies & daddies,

PSLE is over for my DS1 , at least. I feel a sense of relief, life goes back to normal…
Do give yourselves a big pat on your back, for being there for your kids, for being supportive.

To Champion mommy – big thanks for starting this thread. I’ve benefited from everyone.

      Silver horse,

I remembered there is psle marking day. I remembered i used to use those days to do final revision with ds1 in previous years, so probably do the same with ds2. But need to clear compo and oral first. Think ds2 won't be happy that ds1 gets to play in october while he has to revise his work. Lol .

Think your school set killer paper again. Jia you ! Ds2 got band2 for chinese last Sem. Hope to push up to band1 this time. Sa2 is 40%.
Thanks Jedamum....Yeah, we have the PSLE marking days. I could use that. At P2, no killer papers yet.... 🙂 I hope to push DS2 to band2 at least, for Chinese.

      Jiayou!

      Received sa2 exam schedule.

Compo exam a week after Sept holidays.....then oral after children's day.
      Sa2 40%. Year end streaming.
Hi Jedamum... thanks for reviving this thread. It had been so quiet.... we both are busy with DS1 PSLE.

That's early for your DS2 school. Our SA2 starts in last week of October and perhaps the Oral and Compo is mid-October. Yes, after PSLE, I'm gonna focus on DS2 Chinese. He failed in SA1 and recent mini-tests 😞

My son doesn't cooperate to revise two days before exam. He seems so stressful. Don't know what to do. He thinks that last minute revision make him more stress and he can't do well. What do you think?

I personally don't revise before exams especially the day before. I also encourage DD to wind down before exams. Relax.

I second to that. DS reads or watch his Youtube channels on his tablet. I think the school had done enough to prepare them. Let them chill. Must go to school with a relaxed mind.
The prelims were tough though, he said.
