zbear:Like the part on \"throw everything away\" LOL :imcool:I have come to the conclusion seeing my kids going through SIN education - keeping books is like this
P1 - keep for P2
P3 - keep for P4
P5 - keep for P6
Sec 1 - keep for Sec 2
Sec 3 - keep for Sec 4
JC1 - keep for JC2
THEN THROW EVERYTHING AWAY!!!!!!

Thanks! Will use this as reference.smum:
Hi, everybody. DS has started his year end holiday. I think it's about time to do some packing as need to buy sec 2 books. Can somebody advise how to deal with all the sec 1 things? Throw or keep all? Anybody can advise? Thanks!
My sec 3 girl just cleared her stuff. Basically, she extracts anything in the form of notes/handouts that could be useful for future reference, and also keeps things like school worksheets if they could be used as reference. Stuff that was 'practice' she usually discards as she will never look at them again. She also keeps returned major assignments. We keep textbooks if they could be used for reference (the more 'academic' stuff). We keep more at the end of sec 1 and sec 3 and chuck more at the end of sec 2 and sec 4. We bought a few plastic cases for the notes and created a small stack on a bookshelf - I don't think it's likely she will look at them, but they are there if needed! -

Thanks! Your explanation helps a lot.smum:
Hi. Sorry but hope u can help answer some basic question as still struggling to understand this. Thanks a million.
* science stream will make up of which subject combination?
This will vary from school to school. Every school will have a briefing during Sec 2 to explain what they offer. It will usually mean taking at least 2 or 3 sciences plus 1-2 Maths. It's compulsory to take at least 1 arts subject. However there are now a lot of combined sciences and combined humanities subjects. Your school will give details of what they offer.
* art stream will make up of which subject combination?
Usually mean taking at least 2 or 3 arts subjects (Lit, Hist, Geog). It's compulsory to take at least 1 Maths and 1 Science.
* we only have science and art streaming?
For simplicity, yes. But within each broad stream there are many variations. Some schools will be more flexible in what they offer, while some will only offer a set range of combinations.
* humanities means social study, geography, history, literature subject?
Yes.
* what is H1 and H2?
This is for A levels. They used to be called A level (H2) vs AO level (H1).

Thanks for clarification. So those not in AEP and sports DSA will be group into a class?smum:
Hi. Can anybody advise if the secondary one is being stream into their class? Heard DS mentioned something about art class n sport class. I wonder how the school make the separation? By psle results?
For the Sec1s, Art class is for those on the AEP. Sports class is for those who dsa into VS. The sch does not organise the boys accordng to PSLE results whether in express or IP.
They will be reorganised again in Sec3 -

RE: Choosing a school far from home - your thoughts
Augmum:
Upper sec sleep at midnight? What time does your gal wake up? My son will get panda eye if he sleeps at 10 pm and wake up at 5.45 am. I better start training him to sleep less.smum:
I wonder how much time is need for secondary one revision and homework. If the distance is far, will the child still have time in the evening? Hope will not end up sleeping late.
No Time for revision on weekdays....perhaps only on SOME weekends...
Pupils sleeping late is very common in my gal' sch...often near/past midnight...
Esp on days of CCA, she will not be able to reach home before 7 p.m...(even though her sch isnt far fr home)
After shower n dinner...take a short break, check her sch mails....she could only start work at 9+ p.m...
Edit to add...oh, i read again, u are referring to sec1 pupils...
Sec 1 was manageable...bed time was earlier...
