I know a boy without any math medals ( not even a bronze) get shortlisted for R. However I don’t know his other stellar factors.
Medicine fac may be willing to consider a couple of Bs if there are other stellar factors in the applicant’s resume...but never any Cs I presume?
So top schools like R may be willing to consider Olympiad Silver with other stellar factors, but never any Bronze? Is that the trend?[/quote]

Let's not be too presumptive here.

One of friend’s son got in with a B (the rest As), AAAB last year. The interviews play a crucial role than perfect As, so don’t need all As these days, I think?

Made me very curious about the admission criteria of NUS and NTU. Lol
What I saw for medicine/law/dentistry and even computer science are all straight As. Perhaps It is because they only show for 10 and 90 Percentile?
Have to say it is getting tougher and tougher for the kids nowadays compared to our old days. Everything is possible. Perhaps we will even have “Cs” in our future doctors.
Good luck for all the kids with interviews and the coming PSLE. 💪💪💪 -

Yes I absolutely agree with you but for next year when the new PSLE score system kicks in I am not sure how \"fair\" and \"transparent\" that would be would be but that would be for parents who have complained for years about T-Score to judge.MerlionInGermany\" post_id=\"1987781\" time=\"1595736278\" user_id=\"2964:
DSA is a channel for the kids to pick the schools and then for the schools to pick the kids from this list. The kids do not need to explain to the schools why he applies for A and not B, neither does the school need to justify to the parents, why this kid is shortlisted and why this other kid is not.
The most transparent is S1 posting, you with the higher score will get to choose first, before your friend with the lower score.
For the selection of President scholars, PSC scholars and highly contested faculties such as Medicine and Dentistry, a perfect score in A levels is also not the only criteria to get you shortlisted for even an interview. Good grades and a holistic CV is a pre-requisite not a guarantee or an entitlement.
From what I saw almost a decade ago, the registering queue for language domains at RGS was a handful while those queuing to register for the interview under the Math and Science domain was very long. It's my take that due to the limited resources this year, some schools especially the popular ones are shortlisting fewer for interviews.
All the best to your children who are taking PSLE this year.
That is perfect fine, I believe medicine school won’t give a non perfect scorer chance for an interview.
The case in DSA is different, kids with no/silver medals (Or sports ranking lower) got the chance for interview while kids with gold medals (or top rankers) without a chance 😅 here we are just talking about a chance to show the kids’ passions not even a WL or CO.
Looking for next year new PSLE system without T score, if X factor not transparent to parents. How to make it fair? -

Having been shortlisted Vs Final CO Vs get into via PSLE are totally different things.
They got shortlisted for interview, but no offer yet. For all you know, they wont be offered also. So same result as the one who didnt get shortlisted for interview. Unless, being shortlisted for interview, can be put into some sort “bragging rights” CV, or on your university application?Sophy\" post_id=\"1987707\" time=\"1595687493\" user_id=\"185309:
However, I know some kids with only NMOS silver got shortlisted and some even without any medal got the chance too...
It is like a man told a girl :” I love you. Could you just turn your eyes on me for one second?”
The girl said:” No, I am not interested in you. I am more interested in other guys. if you want me to turn eyes on you, you need throw away all other girls love letters, work harder.”
Then what the man should do 😂
For all the boys with interviews, they have equal chance to get in through DSA. With the interview, Medals no longer important. -

Imo for MO regardless of how much training or grilling, to be good the raw talent must be there first.Bochapmum3\" post_id=\"1987755\" time=\"1595730043\" user_id=\"167967:
For every kid who seems too outstanding to not be selected for interview Or not given WL or CO, there are other kids who somehow seem like deserving but got a CO in the end. Just speaking from my limited experience with 2 kids who went through DSA last year.
For GEP, there were indeed quite a number of boys who were not successful with a DSA RI. Some got ACS but chose to give up. In the end, most still end up with RI, so no loss to RI at all.
Not sure about RI, HCI, but for RGS and nygh, all have the chance to sit for the selection test in year 1 to be in the maths olympaid training. It’s only for science DSA which have a bit of advantage in that the few girls are suppose to have a mentor who Will guide them to tAke part in some science competitions. However due to the situation this year, most of such mentor sessions/trainings were cancelled. Anyway come year 2, they are still subjected to the same eligibility and tests to determine if they can take advanced science modules in year 3.
There are too many Maths olympaid competitions around, many resources and many training centre for MO. There are parents and kids who are determined enough to put in hours and hours of grit and grilling to be placed TOP 10. Difficult to tell what is real talent. But those who are TOP have definitely put in massive amount of hard work regardless if they have raw talent or not.
Conversely, science DSA is pretty much under the limelight. Only 2 science Olympaid is P5, and hardly any training centres since market and demand is not high given the limited no of competitions. Maybe that’s where raw talent can be more easily discovered...? But maybe not for Long, because seems like those centres which in the past focus on MO are beginning to extend to SO training as well. -

HCI WL converted to CO is higher than RI WL.
Hi, i would like to understand about WL more. What are the chances of HCI WL convert to CO? Will the places in other domain spilt over? Example: If HCI WL Math domain has completely been offered, will the remaining places split over to English domain?
I saw many cases in the past year, HCI CO vs RI WL, choosing HCI, as RI WL to CO chance is low.
For the splitting over, not sure, but feel less likely. -
RE: DSA 2020 - NUSH
RI said they shortlisted more than Previouse year due to the pandemic not less.
Very puzzled by the selection criteria. Haha… -
RE: DSA 2020 - NUSH
Actually I feel GEPer is “discriminated” this year by RI.
My DS is HIgh distinction for RIPMWC round 1, NMOS gold + team award. Mathlypics gold. Represent his school for SMOPS in P5 with bronze. His NMOS P4 got silver. 97% for his P5 math and other subjects similar with Ruhemet’s DS. He also won silver in international youth bilingual speech competition. And he has ABRSM grade 8 + the soloist in his school choir team. He also actively participate community work ( after listing, I feel he is not that bad actually, haha) He did not get shortlisted either…
However, I know some kids with only NMOS silver got shortlisted and some even without any medal got the chance too…
If DSA is to select based on talents, I don’t see the point why the kids don’t stand a chance to even get an interview. So I called RI, the reply is very polite and official as you can expect. Honestly, I am quite disappointed with such a reputed school.
Anyway, DSA is an experience, definitely not all.
