• RE: Q&A - P5 Math

angel:
A group of people shared a box of oranges among themselves.

If each person gets 5 oranges, there will be 4 oranges left over.
If each person gets 6 oranges, there will be 5 oranges short.
How many oranges are there in the box?
5 each -> 4 left
6 each -> 5 short

Diff of 1 each = 4 + 5 = 9

9/1 = 9 (person)

9x5 + 4 = 49 (Ans)

The number of person must be the same, so answer must be 49, other answers do not tally.

Both are good schools. I would choose St Nicks as well. The culture there is awesome

Get some guidebooks to reinforce your understanding

Assessment books to train answering techniques

Exam papers to tackle higher order questions

Draw mind maps to consolidate ideas

Practice lots of mcqs to make sure you get full marks for that section

Most importantly, science is ever changing. Make sure you know stuff outside of textbook as well and don’t stop asking questions

to add to this..

Schools insist students to change out of their PE attire during recess back to uniform.
Citing hygiene as a reason.. Do teachers change out of their sport attire after PE also?
Actually they do. Some teachers that I know of will take a shower after PE lesson. If not the body odour will scare away the students haha.

Somebody can help me to know my understanding correct or not?

Question - Is the number of atoms in 0.5 mol of oxygen gas and 0.5 mol of iron the same?

I think answer is not correct because Oxygen gas is made up of molecules (O2)

That means, 0.5 mol of oxygen gas have 0.5 x 2 x 6 x 10^23 = 6 x 10^23 oxygen atoms.

But, 0.5 mol of iron have 0.5 x 6 x 10^23 = 3 x 10^23 iron atoms.

So, answer is no, am I right? pls ans when u hv time.

Yes, you are right. The key word in the question is ATOMS. not molecules not ions. Oxygen itself is made up of two atoms since it is diatomic and you have to take that into consideration. πŸ˜„

Hi, you can draw remainder model since it is only for 3 shops, then work backwards.

Double check:

1. 140/2 = 70 70-10 = 60

2. 60/2 = 30 30 - 10 = 20

3. 20/2 = 10 10-10=0 (no money left)
DD received streaming posting result. Doing double sciences of bio/chem as per her application. And surprising things are that not many in her class opt for triple science. Mostly either bio/chem or phy/chem options.

Nowadays the students are very smart. They know they can't cope with triple science as it is way too stressful so they opt for double sciences which they are confident of scoring well in. Of course, there are some who prefer to take triple science (more prestigious/ can drop one of the science if they don't do well without affecting other subjects). It boils down to their mentality. πŸ˜„

Is it because they are not sure what are their career paths are and decide to choose only before going to JC?
That's one of the reasons. So usually they will just choose any subjects that will enable them to get into the same class as their friends etc. The effects of peer pressure is strong. I realise out of 10 students, 9 of them have no direction as to why they choose their subject combination. For these students, they are advised by their friends, seniors, school teachers. I have seen people who anyhow choose so that they can just get promoted.

This is the reason why we will need to sit down and talk to them before making any decision. Proper planning is important. Not just because the subject is easy so take the subject. Have to consider whether you are going poly or JC, which course you are intending to take, else if you don't meet the entrance requirement it will be too late to regret.

Can someone please advise on this question? Dont really understand how to solve. ><

Thank you so much in advance!

Mr Teo traveled at 40km/h from town P to town Q. If he increases his speed by 30km/h ,he will take 6 hours lesser to reach his destination.
What was the distance between town P and town Q?

This is a distance-speed problem that can be solved without algebra. It could be solved by simply understanding the problem and worked from another angle. (In fact, it was trained in Heuristic Maths or Maths Olympiad program which I had taught in schools.)

You have to realize few points
1. the speed increase by 30km/h
2. the time taken reduced by 6 hours.

point 2 => the extra 6 hours will cut the travel distance by 6 x 40 =240km

point 1 => this distance will have to covered by the extra speed of 30km/h in 240/30 = 8 hours.

So the distance between the 2 towns will be 70km/h x 8 h = 560km.

:goodpost: but i know schools are teaching it using the algebra method
