• RE: Secondary School CCA

Hi, I am a sec 1 student who is in a uniform group right now, and I have a question:

Is it possible for me to change CCA next year even though I got my uniform? I found out that I have minor asthma and possible sun allergy. The training is really tough for me and I don't think I can continue being in the CCA and I am planning to join Leo Club (a type of CCA that helps people, this CCA is only available for students to join when they reach Sec 2)

Can I quit my CCA next year? I actually feel quite stressed because of my CCA and I have no mood to go for every training.

Hi Sspitfire, Basic Chinese if for NT stream. In most secondary schools, if you are placed in the NA stream, you will be required to take the NA Chinese. Don't feel too overwhelmed by Express textbooks. Content for NA and Express are more or less the same. Ultimately, if you are taking the O levels in your fifth year, you will be taking the O Levels Chinese.

All the best to you! ๐Ÿ˜„
Thanks! ๐Ÿ˜„ The thing I worry the most is the test papers. For foundation, all we did was only 5 Questions MCQ. But this year is a big jump for me since I will be writing all sorts of stuff. :yikes:
Is it possible to drop from N(A) Chinese to Basic Chinese? AISS placed me in N(A) Chinese and according to the talk from one of the MT teachers, N(A) will be using Express Textbooks and I already got N(T) Chinese Textbooks .-.

My parents agreed since they don't want me to focus so much on my Chinese and fail the other 9 subjects.

I got grade 2 for my Foundation MT in PSLE, is it still possible? I don't want to drop to NT because of my Chinese

Are you in NT or NA stream? Also, when you say Basic Chinese, are you referring to NT Chinese or Chinese B?

I believe if you cannot cope with N(A) Chinese, you will be asked to drop to N(T) Chinese (Basic Chinese) or even Chinese B. However do check out how the change in the subject will affect your promotion criteria, or even your N level exam.

I don't think a student will fail all other subjects just because of one subject. You need to know how to manage your time properly. Also, you need to check what is the promotion criteria for your school. In my nephew's school, a student don't have to pass all the subjects before he/she can gets promoted.

Note: I am not encouraging you to just meet the minimum promotion criteria ๐Ÿ™‚

DS2 was also poor in MT. His sch encouraged him not to give up as his MT was just below passing marks. It was until his final year that he was allowed to switch to CLB. It didn't affect his promotion as he did well for the rest of his subjects.
Promotion to next level in sec sch is usually a pass in English and overall score of 50%. If you fail English, you can't be promoted even if you did exceptionally well in the other subjects cos a fail in English means overall fail. FYI this year O level English is more difficult compared to the old syllabus. Your sch may have other criteria.
Thanks koguma and tutormum, I am in the NA stream. I found out that secondary one and twos are not able to take Basic Chinese by request, only until Secondary three + NA is using EXPRESS Textbooks :faint: And one more question, what's Chinese B? Never heard of it before, thank you once again!
What happened sweetie? :hugs:

My mother said about her and my father going with me on the first day of school, and I just blurt out without thinking and said \"what if daddy that day sleepy then KPKB?\" :faint: And after the meeting, my mother told me that the teachers looked at me when I said it
I'm afraid they will look at me as if I was a bad student on the first day of school! :nailbite:

I doubt they'll even remember. Even if they do, first impressions can change drastically based on your attitude in class and homework + respect to teachers.
Really hope they'll forget it.. ๐Ÿ™

This thread is losing its purpose. Sigh.
