      CP169:
We just heard that HOME is also a FDW agency themselves? Who can verify this? And if yes, is this right?

I wouldn't be surprised....they do help them find employement.

Did you know that while the maid is waiting at embassy etc..while investigations are going on, she can still work if someone is willing to employ her? When my relative spoke to this guy from MOM about canceling the maid's work permit, she asked if the maid can find another job, the guy reply yes.

If only MOM stop maid transfers, they will try their best to do a good job to keep their job instead of being so picky and do funny business to choose employers.

My relative’s maid was caught stealing, 3 different currencies found in her clothes. 2 currencies are not common currencies. My relatives just came back from these countries. When the police were called in, she turned around and told the police that she was abused.

When abuse is mentioned, the police took her away immediately and everything stands still, no employing another maid for you. Investigations take months. In the end, cleared of abuse they were asked if they wanted to take action on the maid if not, buy her a ticket to send her home. She stole a total of 1K plus, my relatives were so sick of her and disgusted that it was easy for her to accuse them of abuse. They just did not want to let keep her ‘vacation’, so they immediately sent her home, otherwise, waiting to go to court will take months and they feel they have to relive all this unpleasantness and anger.

My relative’s maid while at HOME, had excursions to Sentosa and all types of activites.

The sad fact is, the maid can just lie and accuse you the employer of abuse. Even if dr examination finds nothing…the investigations go on for months…meanwhile, the maid is having a vacation free food and lodging. All this time, you are banned from getting another maid. When the case against you (the employer) is cleared, you still buy her a ticket to go home.

You cannot charge the maid in court for lying, unless the maid hurt herself and accuse you of the bruise, burn etc, then it will become a court case…in the end, she might not be charge or convicted. Hence, few months later, she can still apply to come to Singapore to work.

The maids know all these tricks.

I think MOM should stop transfers and make it compulsory for ex sin maid to have reference letters with direct employer’s contact.

Most maids have skyped and know what employer’s needs are, they are free to accept or decline the job. Same for employer. If the maid is really crappy after a few months, then employer can send her home with a letter, maybe a form from MOM, stating the review of this maid. If she wants to come to Singapore again, she has to produce this letter. She cannot just simply claim she is ex sin and wants a higher pay.

MOM says we can write in as referee, I’ve emailed them twice, I never got a reply. I think it’s just lip service.

Now the maids are paid well, if they are not happy with their job, they can resign and pay for their own ticket. This no transfer rule alone will make them think twice about doing funny business to make you send her back to agency.

MOM can schedule maids interviews every 6 months to ensure there is fair treatment. I don’t see why MOM can’t help us this way with no transfer rule.

No transfer rule might cost MOM losing a lot of levy, maid agents make less money…will they help us and be ok with losing some money?

Police report is not enough to ban her. For MOM to consider a ban on a maid, she must be charged and convicted in court. Ban case is usually very serious issues like somebody is physically hurt or died…stealing? "How much? You employer want to pursue or not? If yes, then go to court, if not then quickly buy her ticket to send her home." Stealing is not serious to the police.

Maid looking for boyfriend, shopping etc…i can close one eye…as long as she knows the consequences of pregnancy and broke with no savings, she loose her job. I only expect her to do her job as agreed, follow instuctions and do the job…work half clean and want full pay, break things and act crazy until she can transfer and find an employer to give in to her.

I believe MOM…right hand don’t know what left hand is doing… because they are not interested in knowing, knowing more is more work for them…they are already very busy with standard answers and procedures…going through the motions.

Sorry my typo mistake. I meant to say Indonesian trainer in SIP classes. When the Indo maids arrive in Singapore, they have to attend the SIP classes, they are taught these tricks.

But I’m sure all involved that have money to be made with maid’s transfers will encourage/hope maid to break/spoil things or act crazy to get employer to send them back to agency for transfer.

      Hi Hopes

I believe it was difficult for you. Most employers will do what you did.

In Singapore, you think can anyone just go to the streets and protest? In Hong Kong, maids are allowed to get pregnant and have maternity leave.

You tell agent please don’t transfer her to family with young kids or baby…it’s exactly what she expected employers to do…their Indonesia trainees in SIP class teach them to do this.
"If you are not happy with your employer, just ask for transfer. If they refuse, do work badly…break things also they can’t make you pay, last resort act crazy…employer will let you go. Although no pay while waiting for new employer, current employer still have to pay for your food and lodging at agent. Agent die die also will lie and get you new employer because they want to make agent fees from you again."

You think we can act this way in our search for job overseas? When we go overseas to work, no culture shock for us?

Wouldn't it be great that one day we have full force child care, senior care, retirement homes, serviced apartments etc and never have to employ another maid......then see if all these horrible maids will still be so yaya.... so precious that they won't let them go overseas to work as maids in a few years...............I hope they all stay in their own country and let their leaders create domestic jobs for them that pay as much....

But who are going to be the service personal in those full force child care, senior care, retirement homes, serviced apartments etc ? Singaporeans ?

      Maybe Singaporeans, maybe not.

If these same people (maids) apply to come to singapore to work, they will be hired by eg cleaning companies. Can they get a job and keep a job they way they behave?

They will not live in our homes and we would not feel vulnerable.

They can get away with their bad behaviour is because they live with us, and it is easy to manipulate us knowing every intimate detail of our lives and close proximity to our loved ones, young and old.

They get away with their bad behaviour is because they can transfer as many employers as they like and most of us tolerate it.

If MOM can only do one thing, and willing to help us is to NOT allow transfer. This will make the maids think twice about losing their job

Do we behave the way the maids do towards our bosses and still keep our job? No, I doubt anyone of us can get away with that.

I do not disrepect maids…I respect them as I would the next person. But these days, most maids come in with an agenda of how to best take advantage of the employer and have a good time.

MOM is not interested in any ban of bad maids… I imagine they are happy to have less paperwork and just let them circulate because there is levy to collect.

Of course…there’s also the noble standpoint of "maids are human too… they left their family…from the village etc". …Really? Can we get a dog to do housework and shop groceries for us…Of course we know they are humans…All maids have to attend SIP and safety classes…they know what job they are applying for, don’t they? Are they educated and told about the job and signed their signature with letters of some kind of language or did they thumbprint on the contract or mark a big X on their contract. From the recuritment in their village, transport to town, training centre, to Singapore…through agents, MOM SIP and safety classes…did no one tell them what their job was?

To ban a maid from working in Singapore, for eg. stealing…we’d have to charge her in court
