Verysuperkiasu:
SA1 questions:

1) Susan was amazed that she finished the 100 metre race in less than twenty seconds.
Much to....

Dd's and her other friends' answers :
Much to her amazement, Susan finished the 100 metre race in less than twenty seconds.

Teacher's answer :
Much to Susan's amazement, she finished the 100 metre race in less than twenty seconds.

DD and her friends got zero mark for this question. I thought the name should appear in the main clause which is the second part of the sentence.

2) Mother threw away her old jacket. Then she bought a new one.
After....

DD's answer:
After throwing away her old jacket, Mother bought a new one.

Teacher's answer :
After Mother had thrown away the old jacket, she bought a new one.

DD was marked wrong.

While I agree that the teacher's answer is correct (past perfect 'had thrown' is used for the earlier past action), it is also gramatically correct to say 'After throwing away the old jacket, Mother bought a new one'.

Any advice?
Your DD was actually correct for the first one.Actually both could be accepted,I've written both answers in exams before and the markers all marked me correct, however,to be safer, the teacher's answer would not be recommended and yes,it should be \"After throwing away the old jacket,Mother bought a new one\".Is that a trainee teacher?

Nebbermind:
I can understand why the answer is (2), as the heavier the mass the shorter time taken to reach the ground.

But what about (3) and (4).

There are two ways of looking at options (3) and (4).

Logicially, G, taking longer time to reach ground than F, must be having more frictional force than F. So (3) can't be right. Same logic applies to (4). So the answer is just (2).

BUT, if you take mass and friction into consideration, G, taking longer time to reach the ground than F, means that G is lighter than F. Since Frictional force depends on mass, G also has less frictional force than F. Going by this explanationn, then (3) and (4) are also correct, besides (2).

Can anyone clear this for me?

Is the answer (1)?

no, answer is (2). I am asking why (3) and (4) cannot be the answers due to my reasons above.
The answer can't be 3 or 4.Read the (3) and (4) carefully again. You were probably careless.G took a longer time to reach Y compared to F.Hence,it experienced more friction than than F therefore meaning (3) is wrong.H took a shorter time to reach Y compared to G.Hence it cannot have experienced more friction than G -_-.READ THE QUESTION CAREFULLY. :spank: šŸ˜‚

Answer given was (1), can explain why?
I'm a student very good in Science and actually it's quite obvious right?
Conclusions
A:Least dark
B:Less Dark
C:Mediocre dark
D:Very dark
Temperature:
A:lowest
B:2nd lowest
C:2nd highest
D:highest
From here it's quite obvious already. The darker the object is,the higher the temperature it has.Hence answer is (1)
