Same feeling here. The homework seems geared towards the parents not the kids. She thinks that we parents just sit at home to do her stuff, the timeline for those things she wanted to complete is so tight! And she make it seem that your kid will be embarrassed if it was incomplete.[/quote]
Thank God! Iโm not alone!
Btw I will PM you. I think we need to get connected and support each other.

I received a long email from form teacher of 1G yeasterday. Was shocked at the amount of things we need to prepare for the lessons....from the additional stationery to labelling every Math worksheet. Was up until past midnight to prep these

Hihi!
My DS is also in 1G. I'm also appalled by the amount of things that we need to prep! I also find the FT emails authoritative and intimidating. Don't quite like some of her comments in her emails and how she refer the children by index number

Yes, thanks for your advice. I will write to the school and check if we can visit the school or if they have open house anytime soon before the registration

Thank you so much for your input. It means a lot. So far all info are either not updated or hearsay. I hope more current parents can share their experience with us here.Hi, my son is in P1 this year. So far, it's quite reasonable. I guess it could be because he's only in P1. I have been to school to pick him up a couple of times and I have not witnessed anything rowdy. Not that I think it is even possible to witness with that short frame of time.
Oh yes, I brought him to attend sports day. It's not compulsory for lower primary but for the experience I brought him there. Again, I didn't see any rowdy behaviour.
We live at Pasir Ris and the reason we sent him there is the fact that it's a Catholic school and we hope he gets some values instilled in him.
BTW, How is your son coping so far? Is he enjoying school? Do you send him for cathecism class? Thanks! -
RE: St Stephen's
My back up plan is Poi Ching. But double session so I need to consider where to send him before we go to work

OMG!!! So seriously, no parents here from SSPS who can clear our doubts /concerns???Hey, my kids will be back home after school so not considering after school care. One less issue for me. But yes, it's very important. My husband always says \" you are the average of the 10 people u mix around with\" so company does matter.
rowdiness start from which level ?
start from P1, or after streaming at end of P3 (ie. rowdy from P4 to P6)?
For at Stephens,
how about the top few classes ?
are the top few classes also equally rowdy ?
(maybe top few classes not rowdy.
Only those not so good classes are rowdy, because kids relaxed there - those want to study, study. Those not interested in studies are rowdy ? )
Spoke to another friend she is not considering at Stephens alto under phase 2b for that school, due to rowdy part.
So everyone has own considerations! Such a difficult choice!
U are fortunate...not having to worry abt after-school care.
What other choices do you have besides St Stephen? -
RE: St Stephen's
Very much like yourself, considering the affiliation and single session, and being the nearest to us in the east. Another plus point would be after school care within the school. This is very important too for working parents like us. However, Iโve called the centre to make enquiries. Thereโs a wait list and they can only let me know if thereโs vacancy in October. And itโs not open during school holidays. So still have to have a few back up plans.

Yes your friend is right! It all depends on the child and my DS is those mischievous type. Hence the principal feels that the environment may not be suitable for him. Generally she also finds that the boys from SSPS are more rowdy.Oh ok! But do u have anyone that has kids in this school that u can find out from?
Are u within 1 km? For me, I have heard good reviews too abt this school from a friend whose kids went there. She says it all depends
On the kid too. She has 3 boys there. All behave different depending on whether thy inclined on study or mischief.
Also, bullying can happen in any school I am told. Perhaps we as parents need to see if our kid will fall into trouble at this school.
Also I co Ed I am told kids interact only with same gender once they grow older. So it's the same thing.
Perhaps u can ask in detail to the principal why she thinks so?
I've spoken to a few friends who had kids there and they all said that the school is ok, but these friends' kids are already in their teens.
One of my DS classmate's mum sis-in-law, who is a disciplinarian master also commented that its quite challenging. She will be sending her son to GongShang (phase 2C) eventhough she's phase 2b for SSPS. -

Hi there,Dear all,
Can I ask if there are any parents on this network who has faced severe bullying of kids in st Steven?
Also, any comments on quality of teachers, academic standard (other than Chinese)
Are most welcome.
For lower primary heard that they gve loads of homework. Is that true?
Thanks so much! Really appreciate the inputs! Will help to make my p1 choice easier.
I'm also looking to register my DS at St Stephen this year. However the current preschool principal advised me to 'carefully' think about it. I'm a little hesitant now. Not sure what to do
Hopefully someone here would respond to your query as I find this forum thread for SSPS is rather inactive.
