• RE: Q&A - P5 Math

Can someone help me with this

Linlin had 50 stamps more than Susan. After Susan had given Linlin 29 of her stamps, Linlin had 3 times as many stamps as Susan. How many stamps had Linlin at first.

I tried working out but got stuck with a prime number and a half stamp…

      TIA

Since last year, the school has done away with early dismissal on Wednesday.

You can call the office to check and confirm though.

      DC Mummy:
Seems like most of the feedbacks on most of the PSH branches are really good. My child is currently at the Arena branch but because of the poor management of the principal, I am considering of transferring her to Halifax branch.

Anyone knows if there is priority for school transfer as i understand that Halifax always has really long waiting list....

I have spoken to Ada (priniciple from Halifax but now heading Tanglin) before and was told that priority is given to siblings first and followed by internal transfer. Confirmation has to be done by end Sep with registration form submitted.

Initially, I was contemplating to change there as well after hearing good reviews but utimately put the thought away. Reason is he's doing very well in current branch. He knows his friends, teachers, enjoys the rustic school environment and learning much, thus I don't want him to go through all over again in a new environment.

I heard that Halifax, Seranggon and Buckely are having the long wait list esp those born in 2007 and 2008. Maybe you would like to share more about what are the unpleasant stuff you encountered at Arena? Have you raised your concern to the principle ......

The principal will be the last person i will check with. To think that not only the teachers turnover is high, the students turnover is also very high!! By the way, I have notice that Pats Arena has been having alot of honey stars/cornflakes/cocoa crunch for breakfast or snacktime as compared to last time whereby i can hardly see those 'heaty stuffs' was served for the kids!
Hi smilingmummy. I am quite surprised by what you have said about Pat's Arena. I did check with my DS but he told me that they sometimes do have cereals but only at most once a week. Can you share with us what other unpleasant stuff have you encountered?
So far, the teachers who have left are a few of the really younger teachers (with the exception of 2 more experienced ones whom told me that they wanted more time for their own children). I must say that the job of a Pat's schoolhouse teacher is not that easy, they have to attend quite a few courses to upgrade themselves, going back to school on saturdays for these and meetings. I must say my DSs are quite lucky to get pretty good teachers for the past years.
As for the Principal, I have always have pretty good relationship with her. She has helped me a lot in the past (of course i have also helped whenever she needed parents to be involved in anything). But it is also a 2-way thing, if you have any concerns, you must find time to speak to her.

      baobei:

Anyone can provide advice on how to transfer my child to Nanhua? School Term starting next Jan. My child would be in P1 next year.

Try the school bus. There are about a total of ten buses. But I do not know about the fees.........

You can also take this public buses to nan hua.

      They are: 105, 106, 183, 173, 188, 502, 52, 99

Hmm...I don't think that is what baobei wants to know...

      Hi forgetful,

Edu-Net is name of an enrichment centre... I believe based in Bishan bomb shelter. They would conduct Creative Writing, Challenging Math & Comprehension/Cloze classes in Nan Hua on every Wednesday. Like I said it is owned by the ex principal of Henry Park Ms Pauline Ong and she has a number of teachers (like 4) who are also retirees like her who would come by Nan Hua to teach. My personal opinion is that she is doing it more out of passion and dedication to her ambition rather than for the money. But I have no idea how it is where the standard is concerned but I would think it is value for money.

Nan Hua usually sends out the circular on their courses at the beginning of each semester... check with General Office for Edu Net number and call them to enquire more.
Thanks for your information. I did call them up. Spoke to a Mr Cheng. He told me they have been doing the enrichment for the past 14 years. My son is already in the enrichment programme. I will see how it goes, if my DS1 benefits from it.

      thanks!

The school is starting the enrichment programme next week. It is conducted by Edu-Net. Does anyone has any experience with them? Are their programmes effective? So used to just "googling" everything but there is nothing on the net about them. Wonder how good are their programmes. Anyone has any comments?

Could it be a test that is conducted to check Singapore’s standard against other countries? I’m teaching in a Sec sch, some students from my school were also selected to sit for this "Pisa" test…

    • RE: Pat's Schoolhouse

sorry for not replying to the numerous PMs…have been really busy and stressed over my son’s P1 registration…

Despite my "experience" with her, I had the assurance from Mrs Koh herself that Mel has many many years of experience (with other branches of Pat’s schoolhouse) so she is definitely "qualified" to take care of a school.

Somehow though I just could not approach her like I did with the previous Ps, stand in Ps, district manager who was managing the school during the interim. I was also quite put off by her explanation/replies to some of the concerns I had. But of course this is very subjective. Some parents seemed to be ok with her too…

With the current P, I find it easy to voice my concerns and she also will try her best to react to my many concerns. oh dear seems like I have many complaints like that but it usually has nothing to do with the curriculum…

We just went for the NDP celebration today, you can see the kids really enjoyed putting up the show and the good rapport most of the teachers have with the kids.

      Hi,

I heard that Pat's would be opening a new branch at Whitley and I am interested in sending dd there.

Can anyone tell me if Pat's is a franchise and if standards are the same in all branches?

Also, I would like to find out more about Arena branch's principal Mel, as I found out that she would be transferred to head the Whitley branch.
Pat's is not a franchise. They do have associate schools though (the school uses the curriculum but is run independently). I like their structured curriculum and so far most of the teachers I have encountered are responsible and caring (definitely capable)...

I'm not sure whether standards are the same as I have not gone to the other branches, but they do follow the same curriculum, materials. The workshops, curriculum, school carnival, graduation are all combined activities with all the branches.

Both of my ds enjoy going to school. 😉
