What a good thing that Dr. Chin did for our children !

One rainny day, I walked my daughter to school with an umbrella. Dr Chin was at the school's gate too, sheltering students from the gate to Blk A, back and forth...and he said to me that he is going to put up a shelter.

So he did it ! Bravo, Dr. Chin !

    • RE: Tutor MathsGuru: Ask me for your burning Maths questions!

      optimistforum:
Please help on the answer to the question below.

John and Tom race around a circular track, divided like the face of a clock, into 12 sections. If John gives Tom four sections start and runs half as fast again as Tom, at what point on the track will he overtake Tom? (Assume on the clock face that John and Tom start at 12 and 4, respectively).

The answer is 12, however, if John gives Tom four sections starts and is half as fast, surely does not half as fast mean that John is running at half the speed of Tom. And if he is 4 sections behind, surely Tom will win. Unless half as fast means that John runs at 1.5 times of Tom. Tearing my hair out here. Please help!!!

Edit. QUESTION to MOD. Can this post be migrated to the sticky \"ask the maths tutor a burning question\"

      Tom: 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 / 8 / 9 / 10 ...
      John: 12/ 2 / 4 / 6 / 8 / 10 (over-taken Tom)

      How come is 12 ?

I think there must a error in the question. John let Tom go in front, and run \"slower\" common sense tells me that John will never overtake Tom.
It should be twice as fast.

If this question is to be a 'trick' question, i.e., John 'overtakes' Tom after one round being behind...but WAH !

      Hi Parents,

      Hope all is well.

Are any of the parents here a member of the Alumni? I tried the Web and made some calls but still couldn't get clear directions on how to join. I'm a former student of Tao Nan (1987).

Hope to get some light here.

      Many Thanks!
Send me your contact by PM. I will pass it to the President/Chairman of 道南校友会.

      TheresaChin:
Just wondering if this is true. I heard from a neighbour that there was an intruder in the school yesterday morning, 13 Jul. A male dark skin foreign worker was found in one of the girls toilet in the morning. The matter had been reported to the school management. One of the boy student who saw the man even tried to give chase but lost him.

I would suggest those parents with children in the school warn their kids to be wary of outsiders. Especially the girls, they should go toilet only in pairs. The school should also educate the student on what to do in such situation, what the boy student did was dangerous if he had managed to corner the male worker, especially if he turned violent.

I went to the school and asked the security guard uncle. He did not seems to know about 'a foreign worker' but told me that 'it could be a China exchange student' (who may have wondered into a girl's toilet by mistake) ?

TNS has tighten some security measures, eg locking of all gates except Main Gate on Saturday.
      TK:

I am sure you are not speaking for the school's management.

However, would intruders just choose to visit on Saturday ?
Like I said, changing normal operating procedures just to react to this incident can only give inconvenience to parents, students and other bona fide visitors.

They have security officers. The security officers should be made to patrol the campus, not just sit there and watch car coming in and out.

A PRIMARY school janitor was making his rounds when he found that he could not open the door of a classroom.

When he forced the door open, he was greeted by a shocking sight.

In front of him, sprawled on the teacher's desk, were two teenagers - stark naked.

Mr Siew Teng Cheok, 72, ended up being punched in the eye when he tried to stop the boy from escaping.

The janitor at Tao Nan School in Marine Crescent told The New Paper yesterday that he chanced upon the teenage couple during a routine check of the classrooms at about 5.30pmon Monday.

      Just saw this news too.
I wonder how did this teenage couple enter the school compound.
Isn't the main entrance has a security guard and only Tao Nan students and staff can enter?
This is a trepassing offence and the worst is that teenage couple was caught naked.

The security guard is stationed at the front gate. No use one lah. They are told not to leave their post to patrol the school. People can climb or get in via other ways. I hope that the school should not suddently step up their daily security measures just because of this incident. It will give extra-inconveniences to us parents who are going to school daily.

This is a stand-alone incident, naughty youths (should be sentenced to canning if caught) and happen in the school holidays. Any tightening of normal operating procedures cannot prevent it.

Is it 1-1 tuition by the child's father?

Yes.. well, I will be signing up for parent volunteer next half of the year, and if I am in school, I can also give your child some help if you want.
