• RE: Recommendations for graphing calculators

Ingel Soong\" post_id=\"1816652\" time=\"1510974002\" user_id=\"162540:
The use of calculators was introduced by the Ministry of Education for Primary 5 students in 2008 and Primary 6 students in 2009.
I hope the rule is updated to accomodate the usage of smartphones (I know I know, the smartphone is too smart and too hard to monitor or control during exams by the teachers).
Reason: buying a new graphing calculator costs $179 from the school (my sec3 daughter just informed me yesterday).
While buying an app that emulates the same graphing calculator (same software and functionalities as the calculator but runs on smartphone) only costs $5.
I assume almost all students already have smartphones, or else, a $179 can also buy a new decent smartphone.

Hi, any 1I whatsapp gp for parents ?

Thanks
I just created a new one for 1I parents (1I is IP program), I pm you for the link, to prevent any spam.
On the second thought, maybe we don't really need it. Our children are old enough now to take care their school matters themselves, because they already have WA group per class since day 1. That's what I heard from my dd.

starting wef from 2018 Sec 1 students, All students including Sec 1 \"O\" level students, compulsory to take Higher Chinese -

is this true ? Thanks
yes compulsory for IP, but I don't know about O level.
It's Higher Mother Tounge to be exact, so it is either Higher Chinese or Higher Malay.

I just realized, there are no Math books in the book list that we bought from Cedar school on the registration day last Friday. There should be Math books, shouldn’t there? Anyone knows what Math book should we buy for IP express?

TJC IP across the house, or Cedar girls 50 minutes away?

TJC was 250
Cedar was 254
Dd 264

Is it worth it to take cedar?
Pls advise. Urgent. Thanks

You are in a Cedar thread asking for recommendation between Cedar and TJC. Let me guess, 99.9% will suggest Cedar 😉

So seriously...
I would suggest Cedar.
4 years in an outstanding girl’s school, 2 years in an outstanding JC - very much a no brainer.
As an added bonus, Cedar / VJC uniform vs TJC uniform? No horse run in this contest.

To have balanced feedback, I also posted the same question in TJC thread. And I got the same answer from both 😄
Everywhere I ask, seems like Cedar is the suggested choice, despite TJC is in front of our house.
So, Thank you for all your feedback.

• RE: Temasek Junior College [*IP]

Thank you for your responses. Yes, she took Malay. RGS is not an option due to the high fee for non citizen.

"despite the attraction of a 5 min walk to school, I would prefer Cedar…" —> this is the kind of feedback I’m looking for. Thanks again.
We finally put in Cedar. I may consider moving to somewhere nearby Cedar to lessen the transport time.
