      Looking for this year Sec 2 and above parents, whose child is in musical CCA in HCI. Would like to check if it is a norm for the external instructor to approach the students for extra lessons chargeable at relatively high rate. Does anyone know who in HCI look into the governance of CCA and the external coaches? Appreciate advice. thanks.

      I'm currently a Sec 2 in HCI this year and i'm from the school band. The band does have external conductors and coaches, but students do not need to pay for such services. The head of the PE and CCA Department, Mr Tok, is the main person looking into the governance of CCA.

      Need to get some advice from parents of sec 2 & above..

      Is IS project a compulsory project?

      If the child is unable to form a grp with anyone, would he be allowed to do the project on his own (tho I think it's a bit tedious cos of the scope, but nothing is impossible)?

      If the school expects the IS project to be done in grp, would the teacher slot the child into any existing grp that has not hit the max of 4?

      DS was enjoying too much of his school life in HCI and did not bother to go ard forming grps with his classmates.. when he realized that he has to, it was too late.. his classmates had all found members and formed the grp of 4, so he's left with no classmates to collaborate.. and since he only has 1 ex-schoolmate in HCI, but already formed grp in another consortium, he has no other friends that he know to collaborate.

      Appreciate advice from the parents of the seniors, so that we can know how to proceed with this. thanks.
      IS is compulsory. It's graded into your son's scholastic MSG, and your son must hit the required C6 in order to be promoted to S2. However, I had one classmate who did not register for his project last year and was slotted into an existing group. My advice is that you should get your son to ask his classmates as there are probably still some who have not formed a group.

      iSparks house the GEP students and some PSLE high-scorers (maybe 270ish above?) Other than that, the rest are all spread across Aphelion, Ortus and ProEd. One of the consortium also house the Malaysian scorers. Year 2015 happen to house in Aphelion. Irregardless of which consortium the kids are in, I believe all the kids are doing fine and enjoying life in HCI.

      Thanks for the information. Yeah I am sure the kids do fine and enjoy HCI regardless of consortium. As it is, the campus and friendly environment are already good to look forward to. šŸ˜„

      DS was in GEP in primary school however we were not informed of class/consortium allocation nor attended any briefing... maybe there's a change in directive or something.

      How come I got 272 and I am in ortus šŸ˜“[/quote]
      You may not have gotten 4 A stars. Anyway PSLE score doesn't determine much, just work hard and you should be fine. Btw welcome to Ortus, I'm in 2O3 haha

      Hi,

      Would appreciate it if someone can advise what do the following acronyms in the timetable refer to:

      MA = Mathematics?
      HC = Chinese?
      ELL = English Literature?
      LSS = Lower Secondary Science (as shared earlier)
      HI = History?
      IF = Infocomm?
      IS = ?

      Separately any idea what does LEP, CSE, IP and SIP Students refer to?

      Thanks!
      IS= Independent Studies
      LEP=Language Elective Programme
      CSE= Centre for Scholastic Excellence (Sec 3 students with MSG <=2)
      IP= Normal IP
      SIP= Structured Integrated Programme (Sec 3 students with MSG >3)

      Can I ask a question? in an earlier thread within this forum, someone mentioned that other than iSparks consortium, the rest of the pupils are randomly distributed into different consortiums. However, it seemed that ProEd may have the most classes (if I am not wrong), is there a reason behind it?

      Also, are DSA students also assigned to a particular consortium instead of mixing with the others?
      Each consortium has the same amount of classes this year. Also, DSA students are not assigned to a particular consortium. However, all Malaysian Scholars are housed in the same consortium.

      May i know what is the difference between the consortiums?my son's buddies are from aphelion and told them they are most likely to be in aphelion

      There isn't really much difference between the consortiums. The biggest difference is that iSpark houses the SBGE students, while the other 3 consortiums house the other pupils.

      Just to add on.

      During the haze period last few months, even the Sec 1 classes were \"upgraded\" to air-cond class room.. Not sure how they managed to squeeze more air-cond room ..

      Yes. 3rd lang you can drop anytime. Before EOY exam, school will usually ask the student, whether they want the 3rd lang result to be included as part of MSG calculation..
      We were allocated classes in Block D and the SALT Centre. Also you cannot drop your third language one month before EOY.
