You haven't said what you want to cover. Fees, possessions, travel? Medical is not necessary.
Just enquiring as my girl is going to study in UK. Can you elaborate why medical is not necessary? What insurance should we get for her? Thank you in advance.

    • RE: Methodist Girls' School (Secondary)

I would like to know if my DD has to take Chinese as one of IB subjects in Year 5 & 6 in ACSI even though she has passed her HMT in her GCE ‘O’ Level in Year 4? Isn’t it that once they passed the required HMT in GCE ‘O’ Level, they need not take Chinese in JC, like those doing their ‘A’ Levels?

      Thank you in advance!
Things are likely to change soon, as MGS launches their joint Integrated Programme with ACS(I). It will be an interesting time.

Will it benefit the 2011 Sec 1 students in MGS?. Thanks.

Currently, the Sophia Blackmore class as it is currently employed is more than sufficient to deliver MGS girls who will do well in ACS(I)'s pre-university IB Diploma Programme (i.e. Year 5 and 6 after O-levels). This is based on the typical scores achieved by MGS alumnae graduating from ACS(I). One of them scored the maximum 45 points, although the SBC was not yet deployed in her time.

The full Integrated Programme is scheduled to be launched only for the 2013 intake for Sec 1 at MGS. Meanwhile, the SBC (and indeed, the usual school programme) are likely to deliver a sufficient standard of education.

No, I'm not from MGS. :)
hi Autolycus,

Just to find out how the school decides who qualifies for the SBC since students cannot apply for it via DSA or S1 posting. I'm asking as my girl is currently on waitlist for MGS (IB). Thanks in advance.

Hi UYT, is this parent briefing on 4 September for all DSA students? Thanks.

Mgs' briefing is on 17 October, which is also their Open House Day. I believe briefing is for those who got CO or WL for their DSA application.

Thanks kiasuparents lor for the information. In this case, does that student still participate in the S1 posting while waiting for outcome of the appeal? if the student still do the S1 posting, he obviously has to put that school he DSA-ed as his/her first choice?

      Tricky.
If he puts it as first choice, then he can have 2 appeals: DSA and S1. If DSA appeal failed, can still appeal S1 (assuming he didn't get it).
If he doesn't put the DSA school in any of the choices, he only will not be able to appeal via the S1 posting failure.
You appeal DSA immediately when the PSLE results are out. You appeal S1 when the S1 posting results are out. So if you failed to get a place during the DSA appeal, you still can try again after S1 posting is out. You will have a better feel when you get your PSLE results cause you know your chance for S1 appeal, eg 1 point off or 5 or 10. Best to check with the school.

      got it! Many thanks!
I attended the HCI briefing for parents yesterday (first hand account).

During the briefing, HCI said that 200 students have been given CO. I did a quick count and there were about 40 families, hence I guess HCI has probably given WL1 to 50 students.

The teacher (Ms Sandra) said that the students on CO and WL1 are those that HCI would really like to take in, if not for logistics constraints. She assured that the students on WL1 are no less deserving than those on CO.

The VP then said that the school \"guarantees\" all students on WL1 to be admitted to HCI, if they put HCI as their first choice in the DSA exercise. The \"guarantee\" system works in this way:

      1. Historically, all students on WL1 who puts HCI as first choice have been given CO finally under the DSA exercise. (For those on WL2, a small minority of them may be disappointed in the end.)

      2. In the unlikely event that those students on WL1 are not given CO, on the day of the announcement of DSA results which is also the PSLE results day, inform the school immediately and HCI will admit the student under the \"discretionary\" (appeal) route for PSLE posting. The VP clarified that any student who is admitted under this route will only need to meet the minimum T-score of 200.

I don't remember HCI saying that you cannot put another school in second choice under the DSA exercise. It all boils down to which school you want your child to go to. If you like HCI, put it as first choice and you will get what you want, since the school guarantees it.

Finally, to all parents out there who do not have CO or WL, please give all possible support and encouragement to your DC. There is still 50% of the vacancies left for grab! Good Luck to All!

Regarding the discretionary appeal that parents or principal mentioned in para 2 above, by when will student know whether the appeal is successful or not? I guess outcome of appeal will be made known before the S1 posting deadline? Anyone knows or have experience in this? Thanks!

No. The results of the appeal may be after S1 posting. If you are successful, you take the results, go to your S1 posted school and give it to the admin. They will do the necessary paperwork to transfer you to your DSA school.
Hi All,

My DD wants to get into MGS next year Sec1. May I know what is the cut off point for the PSLE?
How many percent the school accepts from non affiliated school? TIA
      Hi candy08,
Extracted this from page 19 by phttp:

\"MGS Sec confirmed that 2014 Psle Cut Off Point (for 2015 Sec 1 intake : born 2002) is

      247 (O level)
5 points drop, from last year 252 (2013)

256 (IB : International Baccalaureate Diploma)
maintained at 256 (same as last year : 2013)\"

      Hi,

Let me know what you would like to know about MGS. I've 2 girls in MGS, one graduated and the other graduating this year. Both went in through DSA and IB.

The older one graduated, went through the O level (as there was no IB track a few years ago), then IB. The younger one is the first pre IB batch eho went into it in Sec 3.

      Hi Lynn2010,

Firstly, thank you in advance for offering to provide insight into MGS. My girl got wait list for MGS ib program, just want to know your experience on waitlist, size of cohort, the attrition rate (girls who leave ip to do o levels), ip curriculum, language art expectation, etc....

      Thanks in advance.
