Hi, your wife's fren is misinterpreting info. U will understand better when u attend the PTC at the beginning of the year. The sch will explain on how subject banding is done. And as someone mentioned earlier, the girls w poor results r helped a lot by the sch.Hi Folks, my girl is currently in P3 going P4. Someone has told my wife that girls in P4 will be stream into Express and Normal class. And those in normal or poor results will be \"kicked\" out of the school since St Nicholas has no Normal Class. Someone commented it's happening in other schools?
Any P4 parents can comment and advise? I am very troubled and disturbed if there is such a rule currently. -

If I were in ur shoes I wld go for Fairfield, pray v hard and leave everything to GodChief and veterans out there, pls help me...
My story:
SG citizen, 2 kids: elder boy, younger girl.
Me: MGS, Hubby: River Valley Pri.
Staying: within 2km of Clementi pri, Pei tong pri, Qi Fa pri and Nan hua pri and Fairfield.
NH out of qn obviously.
Under phase 2b for Fairfield. I like Fairfield bcos of distance, good character programme, affiliation and mission sch cos I'm Christian.
But looking at the numbers, i'm very worried.
RV: Confirm get in due to hubby's alma mater, but very faraway. Called up, sch bus will come at 5.30am! I do not think I can commit to sending son to and fro for next 6 yrs as I will have to work.
Also, I was thinking if it's worth the distance to also send my gal there next time, as I still prefer her to go MGS. But 2 kids in diff schs is very headache.
Which sch should i choose?
I would definitely prefer RV to the other schs in clementi

i am really shocked to hear this. in all the yrs my girls are in st nicks, they hv never encountered unpleasant situation with other girls. i find the girls are generally v well behaved, of course there'll be some difficult ones, but i suppose it's not only limited to st nicks. is this a recent incident? as for the stress, so far it's been pretty manageable.janet_lee88:
The girls wrote answers on their palms and threatened the others to do the same...when caught, all will get punished. Girls strike fear in the timid ones.
Wow! If I were looking to enroll my dd in this school, this sort of info would give me pause. :yikes: -

Hi,Hi all
Just joined the forum. I am keen to register my daughter for st Nicholas, however heard that it can be rather stressful for students. Also quite alarmed to see that the session is till almost two, which means very late lunch for the children.
Appreciate if parents can share your experiences on the type of children that are suitable for this school, as we all want our children to attend the kind of school that are best suited for them
I used to share ur same concern. was considering giving up a confirmed place for my 2nd girl cos she's a slow learner and was worried she couldn't cope. she also hardly spoke or understood chinese just b4 she entered p1. she's now in p4 and coping well and happy there. personally i don't think it's stressful but parents play a part too. i know some parents who aim for top classes and that may end up stressing the kids. what i like abt the sch is that there's a lot of focus on character building other than academics. kids who are not so strong academically are helped with remedial classes.
another pt is that i feel the new principal, being an old girl herself with 3 girls fr st nicks, is a \"strong\" principal. i think st nicks will blossom under her and i feel very assured with my girls under her lead. hearing her speak, u can tell that she really wants to focus on building the girls' character, and not mollycoddle them (as sometimes we parents are guilty of). i think st nicks prepares them well both academically and character-wise.
as for the late lunch, fr this yr teachers will allow girls to have a snack at 12. -
hi, just a short qn, is catechism class mandatory right now? or still optional?
Hi, there's no cat class, but rather bible time class. Catholic girls (and any others who opt in) do their bible time class separately fr the rest. The rest also hv a bible time class but cover different materials
different materials referring to CME? civics and moral?
Catholic girls hv an activity book called Walking with Jesus. There're no books for non catholic girls. Not too sure exactly what the non catholic girls do but heard there's story telling and watching movies during class. -

The dismissal time for P1 is as late as 145pm. Recess time at 930am. The two meals are almost 4.5 hours apart, assuming you are staying near the school. I wonder how did your girls coped? Did they become skinner?
That's 1 of my bugbears too! Sch used to end at 2 pm a few yrs ago! Some teachers let the girls bring snacks to eat in class at ard 12 so u may want to pack something. But that's usu only for lower pri. I feel sorry for those who stay far away and take sch buses. I let my daughter take the sch bus once but she only got home at 3 as she was the last off, and that was when we were staying in bishan. She was exhausted and weak with hunger. Poor thing! So i decided that that was the last time she took the sch bus. -
