VSK.. Did you manage to attend the GAP Sem briefing last Thursday ?

Just an update, for parents who didn't make it for the briefing..

Mr Chan is back at RI. He gave a brief speech, after which 5 Yr-4 boys shared their Gap Sem experiences..

The focus of the briefing was on the Student-Initiated Courses (SICs), as the boys need to start thinking & working on them during the year-end school holidays, if they choose to do SICs..

There will be another briefing in mid-Jan next year, when parents will be briefed on the various International Courses and Local Work Attachments that the boys can apply for their Gap Sem..

Btw.. The slides have been uploaded onto Stamford.. 😄
Hi firely...so so :imsorry: for the late reply. ....I was so busy with work I hardly had the time to log on to ksp...

      Thanks for the update. :hugs:

I had some problems downloading the attachment from stamford14 ..but finally managed to do it....think they sent another attachment abt the gap semester today.

Ds HMT borderline case ...so he isn't eligble for some of the SICs, I think. Cos of O level HMT next year.

Which area does your ds intend to go into?

Hi VSK.. How have you been ? Your boy is doing 2 Sciences 2 Humanities ? How is he coping so far ? DS says Year-3 is more enjoyable, coz he gets to study his favorite subjects..

Yes, I will be attending the GAP Semester Showcase on 23/10. According to the program, 5pm-6pm is for viewing of displays on International Courses, Work Attachments & Student Initiated Courses at Yusof Ishak Block Atrium..

If you can't attend that, you can join the Briefing at the Auditorium from 6pm-8pm..

I think the Power Point slides will be uploaded onto Stamford after the briefing. I can update you on the important points, if you can't attend the briefing, no problem.. But it would be good if you or hubby can be there personally to see/hear the presentation.. Jmo..

Btw.. The boys will be attending the full GAP Semester Congress on 23/10 too (morning), so your boy can fill you in too.. 😄
DS is doing fine....good to know yr ds is enjoying his year 3 too :celebrate:

yeah...I might do like what you said - attend only the briefing. Thanks for updating. :thankyou:

I heard from ds next year will be a short academic year - as in the only exam is June which will determine if they can get to JC1 the following year. After which will be the GAP semester? (except for O level HMT).

So what they've covered so far since year 1 until next year June - I wonder is that comparable to what the other schools are doing for O levels?

      Hi ifirefly...long time no hear...hehe

      You changed your user name....:)

BTW, are u gg to the GAP semester on 23 Oct? As I'm working now, not convenient to go - it's from 5pm to 8pm, I think.

If someone is kind enough to help take notes or pass notes or pass power point slides, I don't need to be there physically. I just need to be informed of the content of the presentation.

Thanks VSK.. Will log on to read later tonight..

With DS1 at boarding next term, I can focus more attention on DS2, who is P6 this year.. DS2 says he will miss his Gor-Gor at home.. I don't think DS1 will miss his Di-Di, coz there are far too many exciting activities at boarding to occupy him.. 😉
yah hor, just nice for you. You can focus on your ds2. All the best for your ds2's PSLE!! Jia you! :rahrah:

Hi VSK.. I have not logged on Stamford to check the details yet.. Anything important we have to take note of ?

Heard that gaming was a big issue at boarding. Glad that the school has blocked games, eg. LOL, which DS has been hooked on since school holidays last year.. :slapshead:
Parents are to book in with their boys on 23 Mar (Sun) - there will be a briefing for parents from 1.30 but the boys must check in from 12.30 to 1.15pm. Quite a big chunk of info there at stamford14.edu.sg - will get it printed out, then I can read better.

Haha I didnt know abt the gaming issue - I thought all along these sites are banned in RI premises? Sure good thing they're blocked.... hope our boys will be more disciplined there - at home, too many distractions - phone games, computer games, piano, guitar.

Read something about Prep time too :

Prep is the time set aside for boarders to PREPare for school by completing their homework or revising what has been taught. Boarders will do prep in either the Reading Rooms or their own rooms (this is
decided based on their last recorded GPA). Boarding staff/tutors will patrol the rooms during prep time. Prep is conducted every night when the
next day is a school day. So for a regular week, there will be prep on Sunday to Thursday.

Must start thinking of what to pack soon.... 😄
