May I ask when will the J2 receive any emails from Uni with regards to any scholarships or early admission offers? Is it to certain students who perform very well in block tests or only Prelim? Any kids who successfully receive EA or recommend fm HCI based on what kind of grade or portfolio?

I read from reddit that somehow some students got 90 RP or 80 above was not recommended by their top JC; while surprisingingly some students got below 80 RP received email fm NUS/NTU for EA. Is it true? Any parents can shed some lights on their kids' experience of receiving any offers (based on their results/any contribution to school etc)?
Sharing personal experience from my son. He applied for the early admission himself. Based on Prelim results, he was offered by 1 University. I did not hear that he was recommended by HCI in anyway; he did not mention anything about it and I'm quite hands-off in this section. I did hear from him that it was difficult getting offers for EA by NUS/NTU; perhaps my son's result is not tops and not on school's radar.

Perhaps your child can approach the ECG dept to ask more ... they are at the age whereby they need to take charge of what they want.

Usually during orientation, the sec 1s will be rostered to try different CCAs and those who are show potential will have their names taken down and asked to come back for tryouts later. The kid can express

interest to the team and see what the seniors say.

What types of sch shoes are allowed and does HCI have their own jackets pls? I
Jackets - different consortiums may sell their jackets (usually during first parents' meet but coming year will likely be virtual), some CCAs may sell/give(national comps), some classes may design. For lower sec, they dont have aircon in the classrooms so they dont need jackets; jackets are a necessity for some from upp sec to JC. They WILL have a lot of t-shirts though.

      Hi,

Can anyone advise on the shoe rules ( colour, brands, etc) for HCI? TIA.
      taken from school's handbook
The approved colour for shoes shall be white, or a dominant colour of dark blue or black. The socks must be ALL white. Socks must be worn above the ankle at all time.

Dominant definition ---- boys tend to overlook this a bit here and there 😂

High school starts at 7.30am but think silent reading starts earlier.

      - students enter via the gate at HCI (Intl) where u can see swim pool. Everyone takes a bus from TKK down. To go home, folks take bus to 6th Ave to take MRT. This is for those who hops onto MRT in whatever direction.
I do hear boys who come down via Lornie take bus and they probably sleeps on the way down.

College may start at 8am; J1 and J2 were staggered last yr.

Boarding school - Only overseas and selected few are allowed to stay since Covid started last yr, so for 2 yes, Sec 3 boys cannot go to boarding school.
Sec 1 orientation camp - this is in June so fingers crossed by then situation improves n they get overnight camp.

    • RE: Feeling unhappy for my son

Hugs to working_mom and A cool person. Just sharing my observation; my boy is in J1 this year and I witness some of the kids his age that went through PSLE and then O levels. There were a few who under-performed (so-called) during PSLE and went to neighbourhood schools. They topped these schools. I always feel that one either choose to be a small fish in the ocean or big fish in the big pond. These few being the big fishes are given opportunities after opportunities in their schools; my own boy sometimes envy them for having much more opportunities than what he has. And they scored during O level and landed in their dream schools 4 years later.

If your child is indeed knowledgeable/intelligent/hardworking/deserving, the time will come. It goes either way. I have seen kids who go to "elite" schools and not do well there … complacent/distracted/playful, reasons that a parent of a teenager would find it hard to pinpoint and harder to manage.
So learn from this experience. PSLE is just a milestone, not the end. Now looking back, my children are telling me PSLE is easy as compared to what’s ahead. They are barely halfway there (to higher level of education) … so press on and stay positive. Stay strong!

I heard the walking distance from Tan Kah Kee station to secondary school is quite far. May I know what are the buses to take (outside Tan Kah Kee station) to secondary school? Thank you!
all the buses at TKK station will bring one 2 bus-stops down to HCInternational where it's nearer to the secondary school section. Boys will take from the same bus-stop to 6th Avenue station, any bus, to get onto the DT line.
