I would recommend that she goes for private training and competes in the weekend leagues if her commitments allow. These additional training would help your girl to network and know more people outside of her school. My girl went for this year Basketball DSA trial and she highlighted that during team game it is difficult to receive passes from other girls because she is not familiar with them.

Alot of girls at the trials know each other through their private academy or outside competitions. Therefore, the trialists tend to pass the ball to people who they are more familiar with or understand their usual drills. It is difficult to showcase your talent if you can't have the ball.

Beside the additional training and games will also provide her with more basketball experiences. Check your nearby CC and see whether they have basketball classes provide by ActiveSG basketball. They have twice weekly training - one weekday and one weekend. Private academies like SG Basketball, Proform, Academy 13 will also have training for various age groups. League matches are usually held on Sunday.

Do note that DSA commitments in Secondary school might even be more. Therefore, please make sure your child really like the sport.

Thank you for the insight . I guess raising the profile of our kid within the peers and with the coaches is really essential for sports DSA.
I am looking into signing up for ActiveSg as location is nearby and less stress on my wallet . Active SG also form teams to take part in leagues ?

I am also looking at signing her up in private academy if their coach is also teaching at the schools we are aiming for . We are looking at RGS, Cedar, SCGS but I can’t find any info if these school bball coaches teach in private academy .
I know Nanyang bball coach will be Academy 13 but unfortunately Nanyang is too far for us .

I hope it is not too late for my girl to join in these academies outside school. And you are right about bball taking up a lot of time commitment in Sec school on top of the school workload . Need to really make my girl know what she is in for ..

    • RE: Edusave Scholarship Award

We received the Edusave Award letter from CC today. However I am unsure if this is the Merit Bursary award as our household income is below the ceiling and I applied for EMB. The letter merely states my child received Edusave Award.

Last year in P1, when I got the letter it indicated how to register Paynow to receive the cash award $200. But this year letter didn’t state this component so I was wondering if it is because we didn’t get the EMB . Those who didn’t apply for EMB will also got a letter informing them when to receive the cert and Popular vouchers right ?

    • RE: DSA 2023

Hi I am looking for advice on DSA. Pls pardon me and point me to the right link if my post is in the wrong place .

My girl is P5 in 2024, plays basketball.
For the kids who have successfully DSA under bball, may I know if your child joins competitions outside of NSG. I am not sure if I should let my girl train under private club and competes in leagues outside as it is a lot of commitment on top of school training and school work with P5 being an important year .

Another question is anyone has DD who plays basketball in primary school but successfully DSA into netball? My girl’s current school has no netball. We are interested in SNGS but I saw that they have no bball team only netball. What are the chances that a kid without netball experience but bball experience can DSA successfully under netball?

Thank you all in advance . I am asking ahead because training under private club and competing in leagues outside NSG has to start earlier so I need to plan now since she is already P5 next year . Or perhaps we are even considered slow already 😑

For Edify I know their worksheets crafted by MOE teachers. Seems to be middle to higher difficulty levels for both Math and Science. Some of the math heuristics super challenging. I found the keywords book and notes very useful for Science. Seems to be in line with the feedback given by teachers in school.

I heard that Edify founders used to teach at Bluetree?

I assume enrichment schools like BlueTree and Edify will go through other top schools papers ?
Also heard that at Bluetree Teacher Jolene class , number of students can be as many as 18? I find that too big of a class even for group tuition hmmmm

Hope others with experience in these tuition centers can share some insights . So far I have read mostly good reviews for BlueTree on Google .

      Hi fellow parents

Can I get feedback on the following tutors

      1. Teacher Shirleen from Sowing Seedz
      2. Teacher Ivy from Punggol Walk tutor

I am considering these two home based tutors versus Bluetree for my girl.

      Thank you in advance

      Hi

I am looking for reviews on these two home based tutors

Teacher Ivy - Punggol Walk Tutor
      Teacher Shirleen- Sowing Seedz

Both seem to be ex Moe teachers and both teach Science and English. As I am staying in this area , I am considering these two tutors. Hope to get some feedback if any. Thanks in advance
