Sec 1 class allocation is out.

Hi mommyNg, how to check class allocation? Thanks.

Hi KETWEI,

Secondary 1 class allocations can be viewed outside the general office on the first day of school! Hope this helps!

Any parents or seniors from nygh advise what is LeAP? How often do they need to stay back in sch?

After the program, will they be given leadership position in sch?

Thank u
Hi barney8, I may not have taken part in the LeAP program, but I do know that leadership position isn't granted after the program. The LeAP program is mainly to expose secondary 2 students in the program to the activities in which the student councillors take part in. Hope this helps!

Imp75:
How do parents help their child cope with issues such as graded groupwork but none of the group members contributed or bothered to do, left your child to put together the assignment for submission. I find this occurrence rather common.

End of year tchr-child meeting is coming up, should this be told to the FT?
Hi Imp75,

Earlier this year, I have found myself in a similar situation, in a group with two (out of four) of my group members not contributing towards the graded group project. What I did was to give them some time, to see perhaps if their lack of contribution was due to the large amount of homework, but was largerly disappointed. Immediately, my other group member and I reported them to the teacher. The teacher got the four of together, and made us talk about this whole matter. While they still defended themselves, the teacher promised to keep a lookout for our group. Throughout the project, our teacher did occasional checkups on us. In the end, tho the marks we obtained was not the best, but the two members have started contributing, even if it is only a small amount.

I'm not so sure, but I believe this could be the standard procedure in regards to uncooperative teammates in school. Perhaps encouraging the student to firstly confront her teammates before reporting it to the teacher would be a good idea. If such behaviour has yet to cease, perhaps the parents can bring up this issue during PTM. Oh just to add on, I'm a Sec 3.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,

For the lower secondary (Sec1/2), the only subjects that have a different weightage are LA: 2, Geography: 0.5, History 0.5

For the upper secondary (Sec3/4), the only subjects hat have a different weightage are LA:1.5, HCL: 1.5

For every other subject for all four years, they have a weightage of 1.

Twinkle2016:
Hi

Any kind soul can share what are the subjects which will be graded and included in the computation of GPA for sec1? What is the min score in order to promote to sec2?

Thanks
Hi Twinke2016,

To answer your question, the promotion criteria from sec 1 to sec 2 will be:
1. At least 50% in both languages (LA and HCL)
2. An MSG (Mean Subject Grade) of 4 and above.

To add on, the school does not use GPA, but instead uses MSG (Mean Subject Grade).

Hi,

My eldest child is in sec 1 this year and i am getting worried. She has been doing worksheets for LA, HCL, Math etc, but the workbook/ activity book are untouched. Is this normal?

In addition, cutting things like onions during science lesson, teacher did not brief them on how to hold the knives, assuming they know? My girl told me her friend could not manage the knife and it sounds worrying.

The science textbooks that they are using in sec1, are they considered pure science textbook? If yes, then its sec 3 syllabus?

I am so confused. Can someone enlighten me? Thank you.
Hi Snowpaw,

Regarding your first concern, the usage of the workbooks are dependent on the teachers themselves. Some prefer to use it, while some don't. For IM, the teachers rarely touch the workbooks at all. As for HCL, the students are usually required to do the workbook, but it as each unit has three separate texts, it might take some time before teachers start using them. As for LA, I don't recall doing any workbook/activity books.

Regarding your second concern about using knives during science lesson, yes, they do expect you to know how to hold a knife. It should not have been too hard for the students. Adding on, if the students happen to hurt themselves, there are first aid kits located around the science lab, and the teachers will be ready to treat the wounds immediately.

Regarding your last concern, the sciences textbooks are considered pure sciences textbooks. Certain parts of it is used in the sec 1&2 syllabus. The sec 3 syllabus will go deeper into the details from what they learnt in the sec 1&2 syllabus.

Hope this helps!
Hi, anyone has good idea where to get past year paper for NYGH? Any bookshop is selling it?

All girls will have access online in LMS.

hi,Footprint, do they have same ID for LMS from year 1 to year 4? regarding for the course outline, I saw it in student data management system for year1 last year,
i have not found out the outline of sec2 , since almost one month after the school opening
Hi Pattyhong, they have the same ID for LMS throughout the four years. As for the password, they will be required to change frequently.

As for the course outline, the teachers would most probably have sent it to the students already via email, or uploaded it on iTunesU courses (for sec 2 and above) or Edmodo.

Hi FantasyLandDreams,

Advanced Literature in NYGH refers to Advanced English Literature. The criteria for Triple Science + Advance Literature is Science B3 and above, MSG 3 and below as well as not taking an additional subject already. If she would like to take up this combination and is taking Third Language already, she will be required to choose between Advanced Literature and Third Language.

However, Double Science + Advanced Literature has no criteria unlike the previous combination, as Advanced Literature here is not taken as an additional subject.

For both options mention above, Integrated Humanities is a compulsory subject. Therefore, if a student chooses the option Triple Science + Advanced Literature, she would be taking two humanities, Advanced Literature and Integrated Humanities.

Hope this helps!

FantasyLandDreams:
May I ask:
Advanced literature refers to advanced English Literature? Any pre-requisite / criteria before students can select for this option? For example, results for sec 2 literature must be above 75 marks? Does that mean the triple science student can take 2 humanities subject now - normal and advanced literature? Thanks.

Hi,

I know a friend of mine from NYGH was from NYPS and had gotten into NYGH in the year 2014 with exactly 250 including Higher Chinese Language. However, a score of 250 is not confirmed.

If I remember correctly, the chances of getting in would depend on the number of students from NYPS applying to NYGH that year. They would only accept a certain number of students entering through affiliation each year.

Therefore, take for example, they are only accepting 150 students and student A scored 248+2 is ranked 151th among the students, she will not be accepted. However, if student A is ranked 149th among the students, she will be accepted.

Hope this helps!

Hi..

I have extract a post dated PSLE 2014. Any of your NYPS DD with score (247+3, 248+2 or 249+1) managed to get in to NYGH. ?? It was told by Mdm Heng (NYPS ex-principal) that COP 250 is not guaranteed a place. Please help to confirm? Cos parents face the same situation would be worried about the outcome.

Thank you so much!!
PoopyBear:
Your 248+2 will get you in NYGH if you are from NYPS.

No risk. If not convinced please have a chat with Mdm Heng.

was told last friday 250 is not guaranteed

Pattyhong:
may I ask for nygh Sec 1, lower secondary sciece exercise books or O level exercise books better for them to daily practice?

thanks :thankyou:
Hi,

As I am not one to do assessment books, I feel that with the amount of work from school, with the frequent tests and quizzes, as well as projects, not to mention the upcoming CCAs allocation and starting, there may not be enough time for her to do assessment books on a daily basis. What I would recommend, would be to revise concepts that the teacher has taught in class regularly in case of any surprise tests or quizzes, or if free she could get a little head start by reading up. Newspaper reading and magazine reading is recommended to improve her knowledge on current affairs. But is a must, I feel that the lower secondary science exercise books would do better as not all concepts are taught yet and she may or may not be able to complete the O'level exercise books as certain concepts are only taught in the upper sec.

Hope this helps!!^ My apologies if they are not helpful at all!

Sinny:
Hi all,

Could I ask a few qns :

- My DD is in P2 now and I am thinking of getting her to do CCA at P3. What CCA in NYPS should I choose for better chances to get into NYGH via DSA?

- How do they test you for entry to Sec 1? Do they also test on your CCA ability + GAT + interview?

- What if DD fails the GAT/interviews??? Does it means no entry to NYGH?

- What is the average minimum score + CCA (points?) to get into NYGS?

Hope anyone can share some information as I am totally clueless...
Hi,

1) You should allow your daughter to choose what she would want as a CCA as her passion towards CCA will be important or your daughter will be dreading CCA all the time for the next few years. But CCAs that are available in NYGH are all available via DSA http://www.nygh.edu.sg/cos/o.x?c=/wbn/pagetree&func=view&rid=1095346. CCAs that will have a higher chance of accepting would be the sports CCAs, but those are really competitive and your daughter needs to be really good at it and have a strong interest or passion. The Clubs and Societies also accepts DSA students, but she must be one of the top few in national level. As for Performing Arts, I am unsure of whether meany have DSA through this category of CCAs available.

2) I may not have DSA into NYGH, but I have had friends who had gone for the DSA trials and it, was the 'CCA ability' then a group interview. As for DSA through academics, you would have to do GAT, before proceeding to the interview.

3) It would mean that she have to get into NYGH via her PSLE T-Score, and considered that her DSA has unfortunately failed.

4) I am unsure of what you mean by \"average minimum score\". If you mean the PSLE T-Score, it would be 250 for NYPS affiliation. As for CCA points, I am unsure of.

Hope this helps! My apologies if it doesn't.
