Hi there! I can share for I can read as I have experience. It is good for basic reading but for primary, I was not comfortable.

My son has finished the I can read programme and I'm looking for primary level now too.

      Hope that helps
      Hi,

Thanks for sharing. Do you have any idea how is the class being carried out? As in what are the activities/schedule for the class? How are the materials? Is it good?

        Hi,

Anybody attending LCentral Thomson branch? I have seen their materials and found that it's quite good but anybody can share how is it compared to I Can Read & Lorna Whiston? I'm still indecisive between these 3 centers. Can anybody share their experiences? Thanks!

Mindstretcher and Mavis seem to be getting better:)

        Hi,

        Thanks for sharing.
Hmm…for Mindstretcher and Mavis, I believed it's more suitable for at least K1/K2 students right? As for my girl, she's currently in N2 so I was actually looking for 1 which is using holistic approach. At least, the class will not be so bored.

        Anybody else can share? Thanks!

              Hi,

Can you briefly share with us how was the class being carried out?

I have actually went down to their Thomson branch to take a look & the materials & environment was not bad. The staffs there were helpful too. Have not tried out their trial class so can't comment much. The thing is Lcentral gave me a more comfortable feeling as their staffs are there to answer your queries wheareas for I can read, the staffs are not so friendly and helpful. Don't know is it bcos their biz is too good.
Of course, I can't comment much on their teaching method & effectiveness of the program. That's why I need some help from you mummies/daddies here. If you have any feedback, kindly share with me. Thanks so much!

My boy is with LCentral Kovan branch since Oct last year. He is 5 yrs old (K1) now. Basically LC uses only their own workbook to teach. My boy went thru Foundation, Launch Pad and now he is at Lift Off level 1. Foundation and Launch Pad are more like learning thru playing and fun. Phonics reading & writing skills practices.

The tough work starts from Lift off. Every week, they have high frequency sight words reading (start with 40 words and by end of term 1 will be 110 words). This reading is further complement by 14 spelling words and a passage that the children will be taught at class and to be read to parent at home every week.

I think my boy is the youngest in class. He can read about 60/80 sight words so far. Able to spell difficult words like "thought", "young", "brother" etc (using phonics blending skill) but he never got his spelling all correct. According to his teacher, all his classmates (i think is 6 yrs old or some same age) are able to read out all sight words every week (ie 80/80 all correct).
To me, my boy has achieved a milestone already. Imagine he can’t even write A-Z 6 months ago. His class has 6-7 kids I think and I strongly believe this is big reason my boy can progress so fast (small class size).

                Cheers!

                  Hi,

                  Thanks so much for sharing.
Your boy is doing very good. Ya..within a few months time, your boy has achieved such results, it's indeed amazing. Can I know why did you actually choose Lcentral instead of other English program at the very initial stage? Did you actually compare with other programs?

                        Hi Faithgurl,

Initially we wanted to put him at British Council but the fee is really steep. LCentral Kovan was then chosen simply because it is near our home and when I signed him up, there was only 6-7 children in the class. I thought small class size might be good for him since he can’t even write A-Z & doesn’t know phonics then.

He likes his teacher and enjoys the class since his Launch Pad level. Thanks God for assigning him a good teacher! I guess its very important for the child to like his teacher in order to be willing to learn.

The Lift off programme at LCentral seems to suit my boy too. He loves to read books. The High Frequency sight words reading and phonics blending help him to recognise some of the words within the book. Now when we read bedtime storybook together, he will help to read those high frequency sights words.
