Preschool Teachers in Singapore

Since the primary schools nowadays (esp the above average ones) expects the children to have certain standards when enter P1, all the more should the standards of preschools & CC to improve. That is why more & more parents are sending their children to academic enrichment classes. Why can't we have those teachers from enrichment ctrs to join the preschools & CC? Parents then just pay for a higher fee. It will still be the same. I have a cousin who pays around $100 a mth for his son's preschool but pays around $400 for his academic enrichment classes. So end up he is still spending around $500 a mth & his son has to sacrifice his weekend playtime cos of the enrichment classes. Poor boy... He is only 4yrs old.
Same sentiments. I never understand why some people will spend the additional time & money on enrichment classes for the kids on weekends when one could send their kids to a better CC with that money. By sending them to a better CC that actually teaches something, the children will not be wasting their time while the parents are at work as well as get to spend some precious quality time with them during the weekends. With less demands on enrichment programs, the CCs also then will have more better teachers available & able to charge higher fees for the relevant costs involved in employing these better teachers. Isn't that a win-win situation for everyone? -

I think it depends on the kids themselves..some can sit and do work, some cannot. Some learn best when they go for enrichment classes and some just hate classes. So it really depends. I just feel that it is a shame the current education system is strongly focused in academic results rather then the strengths of each individual kid. I have a friend who's son is poor in reading and math and overall studies but extremely good in sports. I told her to send him to sports school later but she said even sports school also need good result to get in... :faint: ...what is the point of having a sport school then right??? :?
Yah, think I heard about this too. Super sad. Think there's still a lot of room for improvement in SG's educational system. The poor kids... -

Maybe they need good Math results to calculate the distance and force or good English results to speak to the media when they win medals for Singapore. :rotflmao: Dont forget we had a Liz Low or Riz Low - i can never remember her name but just remember her boomz :rotflmao: and unique Singlish -

Hi!! I'm a Filipino kindergarten teacher. I just joined the site... couldn't resist your question. I actually have a degree in Secondary Education, major in English, but I've been a Kindergarten teacher for almost four years now. I blame it all on a movie called \"Daddy Daycare\". By Eddie Murphy? Not sure if you're familiar but he got fired from his job and he got stuck with his pre-schoooler son and thought he could turn it into a business. I fell for the cuteness factor of the kids and thought I could do it. Then opportunity presented itself and i took the bait.I am still analyzing the benefits in being a preschool teacher.
Not sure what are the benefits like working hours/annual leave/pay/poos cleaning etc...
Seems like no kindergarten teachers in forums to help answer my question.
Here's the \"are-you-kidding-me?\" part. I have two classes in a day. Three hours in the morning and three hours in the afternoon. The number of kids in one class doesn't go less than fifteen no matter how hard I pray. Once i had twenty five in one class. So on average i handle thirty-five kids a day. THIRTY-FIVE kids in one day. Who does that, right? Well, I do believe I'm a superhero. :nunchuk:
But the thing is, I love working with them... :scratchhead: most of the time.
They are capable of loving you unconditionally. They can surprise you with their thoughts, plus they love to gossip.
They never hold grudges, easy to please, and their emotions so raw and honest. Their brains are like sponge (at least when they're interested) and they have faith in you.
We all have our individual crazies. This one's mine. I don't know why I love to do it but we don't need reason for our passions and our insanity, which most of the time are the same things. I'm young, I'm naive, but in the meantime, what i get from preschool teaching is fulfillment. The chance to say I'm making something out of this world and yet i'm having fun. Kids are fun... most of the time.

What is the preschool teachers pay like compare to NIE teachers?
-
if every time we are face with singaporeans not happy with their jobs and then hire the ‘better’ foreigners instead of educating understanding the needs of the local singaporeans then wouldn’t we just let the whole of singapore always be replaced by foreigners. (of course singaporeans keep changing jobs -( how come our older generations didn’t have this problem of changing jobs -because they didn’t feel devalued)the hen came first or the egg?

Depends on qualification.
Their pay is about $1200~$1800 (before CPF). -
NIE teachers’ pay also depends on qualifications. Diploma, Degree, Degree with honours etc. all have different pay scale.

is there a difference btw a pat’s school teacher and say Cherrie heart teacher’s pay ?
