My older gal is 5 years old this year, i will need to register her for a primary sch in June. I have intention to send her to my alumni school MGS which is in Bukit Timah. However, We stayed in the north and will have to put her through the grueling of 45min of travelling everyday. Is this wise? If i don't send her to MGS, i will settle for a neighbourhood sch. I really will like the best for her. We did consider moving to the west to be closer to MGS, however, myself and husband worked in the north and my parents who are the caregivers to my gals stay in the north too .Anyone with similar problem? or anyone whose children need to travel far to their primary schools?Any suggestions or feedback? Thanks alot.

If I were you, I will sacrifice my inconvenience and let my gal goes to MGS.Simply its a good school, be it academic or character building. Most of all , it has an affliation to the secondary school.

        This is only my thoughts.

I agree with Joy, i will do the same too.

Oh …also, maybe better to take school bus for MGS… the jam in the morning is quite terrible. Does that add on another 30 mins to the poor kids’s journey?

            Hi Newparents,

It is indeed good news where you able to being a PV but have to slog 80 hours instead of normal 40 hours with NYP.

Anyway you can perfrom the PV where in the end then decide whether to enroll NYP or RVPS. Since you are staying in Jervious, the other good schools you can consider area s follow:

            River Valley Pri
            Radin Mas Pri

Putting in a child in SAP school which is good but whether all they able to take it is another question :?: Is just like Pilot Training, not many able to pass out as pilot.

Other thing would be consider is the transport $$. Imagine now sch bus service cost as much like $50 to $100 depending on distance. Take it to be $100 that works out to be $1,200/year on bus. 😞

              NewParents:
              Hi,

I've just been accepted to the Nanyang Primary voluntary program (80 hours!), but I'm now having a second thought if Nanyang is really where I want to send my 1st son into.

Basically I want him to go to a good mixed school to allow his baby sister to get in easily when the time comes for her to get to Primary School.

There's no school within 1 km from where I live (Jervois Rd), and as we are Singapore PR, there's no existing relationship with any schools as yet. Nanyang is a bit further, but River Valley Primary is slightly further than 2 km from where we live.

Can anyone shed some light here? I'd welcome any insight, comments, etc.

              Thanks,
              N.

              Hi,

I am so envy... I only received rejection letter not long ago.. I think they also forget about my application.. Coz I gave a call to them then they said we are not chosen and they sent letters out.. haiz....

                Hi NewParents

I got my DS1 into NYPS via PV route (phase 2B). From previous 2 rounds of registrations, all Phase 2B applications were accepted without balloting. I would say that being a PV is really a good chance to get into NYPS as they normally limit the number of PVs per batch. Also we do not have to compete with the clan/church/affiliation group. 😄 Only competition from grass-root leaders.

Congrats on being accepted for PV in NYPS!
                Hi mickey,

can check with you since your kid is in nyps.. i have just received notification of pv and is been rejected. i trying my last option to buy a house near the school. but recently, i heard that for phrase 2c, nyps did conduct acceptance test prior for the kid to register in 2c... is it true?

                  hi fredia_phionna

I'm afraid I am not aware of any tests conducted for Phase 2C. As far as I know, they only held balloting for applicants within 1km. I guess you'll stand a chance of getting in via Phase 2C if you get your new place. 😄

I am now staying in Choa Chu Kang. And have a son going to P1 in 2010. I am planning to move to Holland V or around Henry Park School to get entry into that school.

Is it a wise move OR is it necessary? Or simply as the site says, Am I too Kiasu?

                    Regards

If you look at the http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/content/bukit-timah in the last 3 years, if you do not qualify for any Phase earlier than Phase 2C, then you had better stay within 1km of the school to get a chance to ballot. This year was unique in that everyone within 1km managed to get in without balloting. Generally, even if you stay within 1km, you still have to ballot with a higher than 60% chance of success.

You decide if it is worth the move.
