      Thanks Keroppi

So guess you've got your letter? Congrats!!
      Hi Keroppi and everyone!!
I'm new to this forum and didn't even know this website existed till recently! 😉
      Any info on the following?
      1. I am a Christian and member of CCMC, but my husband is not. Are we eligible for Phase 2B of registration for ACSJ? We are staying within 1km.
      2. Anyone knows if I have to be an 'active' member of church (eg: serving a ministry) to qualify for the church's endorsement letter?
      Thank you!!

        Dear Chief,

Your personal sharing really touched me and brought tears to my eyes!

My hubby is a true-blue old boy of ACS ie. ACSJ - ACS - ACJC.
Our DS is now 2.5 yo and hubby is adament about him going to ACS for P1 (and all the way if he can).

Me? I was from neighbourhood schools all along and co-ed. Preschool @ PAP kindergarden, primary school within walking distance (now no longer exists), secondary school was good but nothing to shout about. JC was OK but not those often-mentioned ones. Yet I managed to get into the U and doing relatively well over my 20+ working years! So I am very grateful to the gar'men for the education system in Singapore bringing me to where I am today!

So I was totally un-impressed with all those branded name schools. And for some reason I am quite paranoid about MONO-ED schools! I always thought it is not very healthy for a school not to have both boys & girls. I have this morbid fear - will they make my son dress up as a girl to perform on stage??? :!:

But after reading KSP forums and the realization of how stressful P1 registration is, I begin to change my mind about ACS.
        :lovesite:
Now I am pretty grateful to my in-laws for sending hubby into ACSJ (through church affiliation in the 70s) so that the pressure is off for my boy!

Just yesterday submitted the form to join OBA of ACS, got a shock when I read that the old boy have to join the OBA for TWO YEARS before you can get TOP priority hence I kicked my hubby's ass to join quickly! Yup, paid SGD500. For those truly KSP, what is SGD500?

BTW, I am really glad ACSJ is at Winstedt Road (not Barker Road) so that we do not have to face the traffic jams. Also just found out it is a brand new premises so facilities should be good!

My vote to ACS Junior!!! :celebrate: :rahrah:

Dear DesertWind, you are most welcome. I am reminded of my mother everytime P1 registration goes into full swing.

ACS Junior is a good school and strung together consistently good performances in PSLE over the last 3 years. If you observe the P1 registration history, over 50% of the places are taken up children of old boys or those with siblings in the same school. This goes to show how satisfied the alumni is with the school.

I heard from my friend whose son is in ACJS that the school does not give out homework, believing that all that needs to be covered is done in school, and that a child should have time to rest and play outside school.

When I asked my friend if this was because her son is in a special class with kids of special needs - her son cannot engage in physical activity but otherwise normal - she was not sure.

Can all Mummies and Daddies whose kids are already in ACJS please share if the no-homework practice is true, and if it extends from P1-P6? (My friend’s son is in P4.) What about ACPS?

              Hi everybody

I am starting to worry (read: panick) about my 6 year-old son's P1 registration.

We are thinking of registering him for ACSJ under 2B (church affiliation) but our problem is that we are way beyond 2km from the school. I am confused as I read somewhere that ballots are only done up to 2km but the school website showed there are cases of >2km applicants getting into the school. Can somebody be kind enough to clarify if there is any chance of getting into the school if we are more than 2km away? We intend to do the reverse, i.e. rent a nearby apt if we manage to get him in.

              Would really appreciate enlightment.... :?:

              Many thanks!

                If you check this link:
                http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/content/central

you will see that in the last 4 years, ACSJ requires balloting in Phase 2B for those beyond 2km. So if you can get a place within 1km, you should be quite safe for Phase 2B.

Does it mean I still have time to rent a place and improve my chances in 2B?
                  (fingers crossed)

                  Thanks again

Is your kid due for registration THIS year? If so you only have less than a few weeks to get a proper place near the school. Remember that renting a place but not actually staying there for the duration of your kid's Primary School education is a felony, so please consider this carefully.

Thanks for the reminder. It was tempting but our plan was to rent a place only if son gets in to cut down the travelling time.

How is that different from buying a place and selling the place later. Or for the matter of fact, how some PRs (sorry, nothing against PRs) rent for 2 years and move on to bigger unit 2 years later......Sorry, I very blur......tot very common.
