Hi mummies and daddies, during silent reading, if a girl doesn't know the word, especially Chinese, can she ask the teachers in charge? Asking this as I have always encourage my girl to ask when she doesn't know. Many thanks.
during silent reading inside Assembly school hall (12.30 pm to 1 pm) -
your daughter can use pencil to underline or use a highlighter, to highlight those words she doesn't know how to read, first
during Chinese lessons :
after pupils have completed daily school work, if there is time, she may approach her Chinese Tr, how to read those words.

Yes, some pupils changed Cca.
Is it common for parents to switch cca p1 and p2 ?
for certain Sports Cca -
some pupils in P1 Recreational team feel that the coach tend to focus more, pay more attention to school team.
So, some changed to another Cca, when come P2.
Then, there are also another group of pupils that drop Cca, when come P2.
Not change Cca, but drop Cca.
P1 is honeymoon year.
so parents do not mind let their daughter try out one Cca, in P1 initially.
After trying out for one year, at end of Term 4, some pupils' results not good, need to improve in certain subject.
Parents affected feel that perhaps their child ought to spend more time focus on weak subject.
Cca is hectic, so pupils may drop Cca.
They're not inclined to continue with Cca, come P2.
They'll come back in P4 for Cca :
since P4 Cca is compulsory. -
sparkie0209:
you're welcome, sparkie
many thanks for your reply.

In fact, you're training your daughter early from P1, towards independent self-directive, self-motivated learning style. Good !
means whenever she come across any new English or Chinese vocabulary, not sure or don't know how to read, pronounce or don't understand its meaning : she able to collate all the unsure words together, at one shot clarify with her Tr on a daily basis, it is a very good Training ground : train her to be an independent learner, from P1. Clarify her doubts with Tr on the very same day that she come across new vocab.
Self-directed learning, independent learning goes a long way, ESP. If next time, she intend to study IP (integrated program) in Secondary school instead of O level, where there is little hand-holding from subject Tr.
if one unsure of certain concepts taught during lessons, take own initiative, to clarify doubts with subject Tr.
IP program tend to have more projects (individual + group) and Performance Tasks.
For IP -
Students need to be independent, to search for information on their own. Teaching method is like university style, where they train students to be confident, articulate in presenting their findings, stand in front of their classmates and Tr, make presentation in small groups. And be prepared to be challenged by pupils from other groups, who may not agree to your views presented. Be open to other students' view points. Then you have to learn to speak up. Is good to Learn from other pupils' views, because sometimes they think from another, different angle, which we had not thought of, consider before.
O level -
more structured, more hand-holding from Tr.
Students who gone through the IP path, are usually more confident in high level thought process thinking, and in speech, compared to O level pupils. -
Luanee:
many students studying here : aim for RGS Secondary.
Oh so 255 is the cut off points for IP?
last year (2013) -
RGS Cut off point was 259.
255 ... is actually a very high score.
it is not easy to get 255.
sadly with 255, one can't enter RGS (if rely on Psle T-score) :
because Rgps (our school) not affliated to RGS.
last year (2013) : many 264, 271s, entered RGS.
last year :
a lot, a lot of pupils with 258, 257, 256 appealed, from so many primary schools, all over Singapore.
(they're just 1 to 3 points, below 259 cut off point)
people often ask -
\"how many students scored 250, and above ?\"
However, to enter a school like RGS : one may re-phrase the question :
how many students scored ... high end of 25x ?
if low end of 25x (eg: 251, 252) -
even if appeal, also can't enter :
because Rgps (our school) not affliated to RGS.
The further a pupil's T-score is away from RGS Cut off point :
appeal doesn't work.
If one keep pestering Rgs Secondary for appeal, with low T-score far away from her Cut off point, do not be surprised if Rgs Secondary may turn around, counter-asked parents instead (because So many pupils from so many schools appealing), \"does your daughter come from a school affliated to the Secondary ? If Yes, perhaps you may want to consider send her to the affliated Secondary school, instead ?\"
There is no relation between Rgps to Rgs Secondary.
Thus, Rgs Sec take in only Top scholars, from all the primary schools in Singapore, if they enter by psle T-score route (non-DSA route)
This way, Rgs remain as the Top All Girls' Secondary school, in Singapore.
If a Sec school take in pupils from the affliated primary school, giving her affliated pupils the priority to enter first before any outsiders, at a discounted T-score (can be as wide as 10 points difference), then this school cannot be the Top Secondary school. -
