2014 PSLE Discussions and Strategy

CHC123:
I think moe is doing some statistic adjustment and narrowing the gaps. \"All schools are good schools\".houselizard:
COP should be renamed to LASA (Lowest Aggregate Score Accepted) for the year.
This apply only to IP and top school. Surprisingly a lot of neighbourhood and average school COP had raised.
Beatty from 213 to 218
CHIJ Katong Convent from 226 to 227
Guangyang Sec Sch from 194 to 201
Manjusri Sec Sch from 201 to 206
Mayflower Sec Sch from 221 to 223
ETC......
It seem that this year the trend are the other way round. Top school COP drop and neighourhood and average school COP raised/

isetan:
247 (O level)
Wow Mgs standard can close up to rgs!phtthp:
MGS Sec confirmed that COP is
247 (O level)
256 (IB : International Baccalaureate Diploma)
5 points drop, from last year 252 (2013)
256 (IB)
maintained at 256 (same as last year : 2013) -

River valley dropped from 256 to 249? Why such a sharp drop for this ip school when most of the other ip schools dropped only average of 2 points?
-
River Valley only dropped 2 points. Last year COP was 251, not 256.

Vagabond:
River Valley only dropped 2 points. Last year COP was 251, not 256.

Yes, 2 points drop from last year, at 251
But 7 points drop from 2 years' ago, at 256 (for kids born 2000 : sat 2012 Psle, for 2013 Sec 1 intake)
Before that, 2011 Psle (for 2012 Sec 1 intake) :
RV high COP was 254.
for an IP school :
7 points drop quite drastic
because the 1st significant drop occurred : from 2012 Psle to 2013 Psle, from 256 to 251.
And 2nd less significant drop followed, from last year 2013 Psle to this year batch : from 251 to 249 (went down to below 250)
need to continue monitoring, in future years ahead.
Because this is an IP school : no O level exam, but go straight up to A level.
If is O level school, where pupils still sit for O level exam, is ok.
Because O level exam can still catch them, give them a chance to go polytechnic or go A level
IP curriculum is rigorous
for an IP school : COP should not fall below 250
However, part of the drop was because more IP schools like Catholic High, CHIJ St Nicholas, SCGS open up, for IP intake. -

Top 10% is now 249 and not 250. Hence RVH is still taking students who are in the top 10%.
IMHO, PSLE T-Score of 2012 (born 2000) is no longer relevant. For example, RI went from 263 in 2012 to 259 in 2013 to 256 this year. So they have also dropped 7 points in 2 years. -

CHS IP/VS IP/TJC IP Cop 249, SJI IB: 248
COP drop is expected as cohort size continue reducing,
2012 cohort size 48500, 10% is 4850
2014 cohort size 43000, 10% is 4300
now even more IP place available, COP definitely will drop
Believe MOE only allow top 10% go IP/IB -

(1) Perhaps there are not too many high scoreres in the west area hence RVHS COP dropped. Not many people will want to travel from other part of the island to go to Jurong to study unlike other IP schools in Bukit Timah, Bishan which can serve more estates.
(2) People staying in Clementi, CCK, Bukit Batok will consider Bukit Timah school over Jurong area due to transportation arrangement too.
(3)The demand of the school drives up the COP of the school and not what the school can determine. As such, it will be unrealistic for expecting IP schools to maintain COP above 250. Unless you have a crystal ball and can determine the demand and wishes.
(4) Lastly, there are too many factors such as birth rates, wishes, cohort demands and performance, supply etc which determine the COP of that year.
By the way, would we know the COP next year? :scratchhead: IMHO, no offence to any of your efforts, it would be meaningless for such analysis since the COP is driven by so many external factors which are beyond the control of the school. -
