Actually I feel that when you get a bad maid ,it doesn’t mean the agency is bad [/list]…attitude of the maid is more dependant on her own personality. but very important is the agency is willing to help us solve our problems when we do have issues . Some agencies won’t even bother helping or advising when they have handed over the maid to you.

I have tried the "branded " agencies in Singapore. and they just are more business minded where as the current agency where i have taken 2 helper from and also recommended my friends ,they are more " relationship minding " Staff are friendly, boss is friendly too. any time i needed any advise, they were there ,either by phone or even sms .

recently my friend who took a filipina from them also mentioned that they were giving spa voucher since she just sign up.

One of my friends maid was working for 10 people in the HDB and overworked ,at night also must take care baby… She called the agency saying that the maid seem unhappy and agency made a friendly call to the helper, well ,the agent then called my friend and discussed how to ease the load and give a break in between. We are all humans after all. Everyone get tired working 9 to 6 then imagine waking up few times at night to make milk for baby.

I called a few small agencies and was told indo. maid can usually arrive spore 2-3 wks time. When I called a bigger agency like Nation maid agency, their rep. told me it’ll take 2 mths due to some regulations which the smaller ones did not adhere to.

Can someone help me with an explanation? Who’s telling the truth?

        Thanks in advance!

Yup. Indo regulation need 2 months ‘training’ (sleep, eat n learn may be 10%) there.

Smaller agency might not follow their local regulation. Once the maid is out of the country, they are legally here.

Past few weeks, my ex maid act CRAZY n asked for immediate transfer. I hv no maid n i am very strict on certain my house rule.
So i called 3 agencies (2 small n one considered medium) who can supply maid with above rule… end up the number of days is between 10 days to 40 days.
The 10 days maid happen to be in the training centre for almost 1.5 months.

She is currently working fine n very good.
Except communication issue. In fact, she willing to pick up Eng from my kids.
          Finger cross. Remain the same.

              Nope.
              There r 2 agencies -Indo n Sin.
Indo need maids to stay in indo agency for 2 months training before qualify to work in overseas.

Once they r in Sin, maid need to follow MOM own rules.

For my case, i interview maids from different sin agencies - 10 to 60 days availablity.

At the end from same small local agent, I selected 2 maids from different Indo agency.
1 is 2 wks available. Another is 1.5 months.
For the 2 wks case, partly she has available passport n she is there for 1.5 months.

Big or small agency in sin does not matter, good to b honest n can return u loan $ if things go wrong.
I prefer small agencies with more than 5 yrs history n I only used those recommended by my friends/ kiasuparent.

If i am not wrong workpermit validity is 2 yrs or is tight to passport expiry date which ever is shorter.
                      This is for office worker.

If I am in yr position, i w not select a maid to all these uncertain changes.
Ask the agent get new passport or get another maid.

Passport left only 1 year usually is because they are transfer maid.
Did you check the maid employment history the number of employer they had changed before ? You can obtain the Maid Work Permit Number from the Maid Agency and check her employment history at MOM Online.
Previously, I had employed a helper whom had changed 7 employers in less than 2 years and we employed her for around 2 months before we sent her home. The number of stories she made up and the amount of trouble she had created was indescribable.
My advise is think twice before getting a transfer maid. :xedfingers:

If you think the new maid is good and she is the one you are looking for. Well..... you may go ahead to employ her. Passport Renewal Fee is either pay by the helper, employer or 50/50. Check with the employment agency who is responsible for the Passport Renewal Fee, better state it black and white on the agreement so that neither one of you can shrink the responsibility. It is rather troublesome to do it yourself because of the travelling time to embassy and waiting time. If you are a working adult, you may require to take a few days leave. If agency do it for you, they will charge you extra handling fee.

The decision still lies in you whether willing to pay for the extra Passport Renewal Fee after 1 year of employment.
