Does school conduct test before allow the kid to reg Pri 1?

looks like some neighbourhood schools are pushing their students to excel so they do streaming to pick the best students who will be able to "enjoy" the limited resource.

Hi ChiefKiasu, my child is in P1 this year and I would be shifting nearby to Kong Hwa Pri. What do you think my chances to secure a transfer into this school for next yr??
I’m considering for PV to this school for my younger child now in Nursery. Is it difficult to get PV with this school? thks! -

It's better that you check with the school directly. I believe they will first need to assess your child's standard before they decide. Also, I believe Konghwa will be moving over to the Paya Lebar area next year (taking over Maha Bohdi's previous temporary site) as their current premises are due for some major renovation. You should keep that in mindHi ChiefKiasu, my child is in P1 this year and I would be shifting nearby to Kong Hwa Pri. What do you think my chances to secure a transfer into this school for next yr??

BTW, MBS is probably only moving out of the circuit road school next year iso June 2008. Heard that they are probably moving to single session next year so they probably need to do additional works to the new school building.

MMM,In the case of MBS, the P1 kids were stream based on their SA1 chinese results. I totally agree with Chief, given that those kids in the best class are taught alot more and tested alot more than the rest but they still sit for the same SA paper. Potentially their results will be better given their exposure. So it's never playing on the same level.
Was relating to my ex-teacher who is still teaching there that no doubt that such streaming helps teachers to focus their attn and group kids according to their capability (probably better for them). But as a parent, inorder to avoid the situation above, we need to ensure that the kids do well enough to make it to the top class or at least average....
my dd will be registering in primary sch in yr 2010. Would like to find some informations.
Is it a usual pratice that MBS will hv streaming? Chinese only?
How does MBS go about it to segregate children to the classes?
How is MBS standard compare to Eunos Primary and Geylang Med Sch?

MBS is a SAP school and they only does streaming for P1 and P2. From P3 onwards, kids are stream based on their overall results. My girl is going to P3 so I am still learning the system. But basically, I think there is only 1 or 2 top class? the rest will be a mixture of students.
I don't know how MBS split the kids, probably by registration phase? Frankly I am not too sure.
For comparison with Eunos and Geyland med, MBS is a SAP school so it's \"diff\". You might want to refer to KSP school rankings, etc... to compare. -

Creative wizards... Hmm, so do they teach you how to make magic potions and powerful spells? What goes on in the banded classes? This was what i heard..
>Better teachers... - Younger, the creative wizards who inspire..
>More homework... - Which i think the banded kids reali love...
>More interactive lessons... - No fair!

Oh had heard that CHIJ (Kellock) conducted test for the P1 in the oridentation day. The kid took English & Maths. Those who do not fare well have to come to the school take remedial lessons.
The school guess would do streaming before P1. I gues most schools do have some form of internal streaming after P1 & P2. -

I was a PV at Geylang Methodist School (Primary). During their P1 Orientation Day last year, students are being allocated to their respective class and after that they were given math & English worksheets to do. Some can do very well. Some totally don't know how to do and cried. As a PV, I was told not to tell them the answer but to tell them treat it as a game and if you don't know just make a guess as all are multiple choice question. Those that did not do well, the form teacher will enourage their parents to send their children for enrichment during the holiday. SWEAT!!!
my dd was allocated her class before orientation...but during orientation, she was brought around and given some work to do. like a fill in the blanks for spelling parts of the school which she was able to do with ease. I KPO so asked her if any of her friends cun do. she told me blankly that only some can do and some never do.
no need to submit so I don't know if school is gg to see anything from these... -
heard from somewhere else that before any banding can be done, some schools put the children in classes based on their month of births. My dd is in the 2nd last class, coinciding with her month which is in the last quarter of the year… can someone confirm this? apparently they sort of expect that the slower learners will be those born end of the year??
