            Hi,

We will be traveling to tokyo for 8 days with 3 kids. Have booked a night at Hakone and the rest staying at Shinjuku. May I know how do we travel to Mt Fuji from Hakone?

And from Shinjuku to Hakone? How long does it takes?

And we are confused with the different type of train services. First time to Japan!

            Thank you.

Why do you want to travel to Mt Fuji from Hakone? Are you gong to go to the 5th station or to climb the mountain? Hakone and Mt Fuji are different places. See the maps below which I got fm Google map for u:

The best way to travel from Mt Fuji from Hakone is by car, but there may be other ways. I'll check and get back to you if there are any better routes.

As parts of Hakone (from Sou-un-zan to Owakudani) is currently out of bounds, you might not be able to enjoy Hakone as much as before.

From Shinjuku to Hakone, it's about 85 mins-2 hours depending of what type of train you take. Can refer to the following for details.

                http://goo.gl/ccBYSp

For trains, you can refer to the below, it's about the same for Tokyo.
                dimitri_can:
There are a few types of trains on Kansai area (Osaka, Nara, Kyoto, Kobe, etc), so do familiarize yourself on which train to take.

                http://i58.tinypic.com/mr5stc.png\">

                Train Network Map:
                https://www.jr-odekake.net/eki/pdf/teisya_01.pdf

An example of how to read the train network map in Kansai area.

On the boxes marked red, you see that Osaka, Kyoto and the types of trains are marked.
See the 3 dots on Kyoto station, this indicates that 普通 (Local), 快速(Rapid) and 新快速(Special Rapid) trains will go to this station.

Now, look at the box marked green, only the top dot is marked, this indicates that only the 普通 (Local) train will stop at this station.
                http://i58.tinypic.com/nmdik5.png\">

If you take 新快速, u should be able to reach Kyoto in 30 mins and reach Sannomiya in 20 mins。

If you take the 普通 train, it will take about 1 hour to reach the same destination

I thought it is nearer to go Mt Fuji from Hakone. I got the wrong idea all along 😞
