I was told YS was replaced by SA this year. I stopped subscription this year as my DD does not like SA. My DD told me her school library got YS and SA. I checked online YS, and found the website. The subscription fee is $53 per 10 issues. I subscript all 3 levels' magazine with $143. My DD likes YS very much. -
My daughter and her friends love YS. You can get pass issued YS at popular (left over stock) but not this year issue, because they are no longer carry it from yesr 2013. I bought 3 levels for my P2 daughters, she is fine in reading every level. Library also have YS. Or you may share/exchange with few friends in the school for buying the few levels for money saving.

English Corner no longer distributes YS. Internal disagreement between publisher & distributor. They now release another science magazine SA.startlearningnow:

YS is still available directly from publisher. You will be greeted by the letter that alerts to this matter.

EC & YS saga: you say i wrong, I say your wrong.
Up to parents to decide whether to pursue further subscriptions with either
PS: Popular partner with EC, thus do not carry YS (except to clear old stock that EC has distributorship with) -
I think both companies have moved on but might be useful to hear both sides of the story:

I highlighted their sale earlier as I want to support the team that built up Young Scientist's distribution for 10 years in Singapore (before it was \"taken\" back suddenly by the Malaysia distributor).
The English Language Consultant who edited Young Scientists through the last several years (Ms Lee Sow Ling) has chosen to stay on with English Corner.
YS has a new editor (Ms Linda Gan)...shoebutton:

Ehmm.. I am just a parent. Not related to either side.I think both companies have moved on but might be useful to hear both sides of the story:

So don't flame me. :yikes:
There are several notes on this \"quarrel\", Facebook and their website. To me, after reading both sides, I do not like how YS treat EC (abrupt departure and leeching on their 10 yrs of distributorship). However, I also do not like how EC try to mislead parents about the diff between SA & YS, sending us a SA as the last copy. If I am not mistaken, Ms Lee is an employee of EC anyway, since EC had taken on the role of distributorship n english editing. So she staying on does not imply quality of either SA or YS magazine.
Peace.. :siam: -
If EC did not infringe the intellectual properties of YS, no partner will be so silly to tear a bonded relationship of many years.
Imagine you created the product and trusted someone to work together with you. But then because of greed you copy and then misled the public… wrong move.
Without this copycat saga, I think EC will still be the sole distributor today… It hurts both sides. -
@bzb, I totally disagree with your opinion and would urge fellow Singaporeans to seriously review the facts presented above with an open mind before deciding whether to subscribe to Science Adventures, Young Scientists or both in 2014.
After I got to know of the abrupt change in magazine publisher I did more research and also spoke to Betty (the owner of EnglishCorner) at Popular.
The picture that emerged is shocking. She struck me as a kindly old lady who had her life's work torn from her hands.
YS secretly printed a renewal form in issue #122 that directed renewals away from EC to a company owned by YS. To put it bluntly, YS tried to steal EC's database of subscribers built up over 10 years of hard work.
It gets worse. YS then unilaterally terminated EC's distributorship just as Betty was recovering from a serious life-threatening illness (I am not in a position to share more but encourage those who know Betty to speak to her directly). In addition to the rude way in which Betty was treated throughout the termination they have since embarked on a campaign to smear the reputation of EnglishCorner in every way possible.
If anything, throughout this saga what EC should have done better is to communicate clearly the true picture to it's customers (including the reason why it could not distribute #122 and instead substituted it with the first issue of SA). However imagine how you might also be too shocked to make the right moves if the business you have built over 10 years is suddenly taken from you through unethical means.
I feel mad that a Malaysian company thinks it has the right to steal EC's customers, smear their reputation and now pass themselves off as a Singapore company when they are in every way still fully owned and managed as a Malaysian family business.
My boy enjoys reading both YS and SA magazines. Do also support SA if you also like the magazine and do not be misled by any insinuations not supported by facts. -
startlearningnow, I totally disagree. You have misled readers by not stating an important issue.
Back in 2012 - Level 4 was published since Jan 2012.
It was stated inside page, copyright … pt kuark internasional.
It front cover page stated Young Scientists.
I am a Maths assessment publisher.
Thus, what EC did was not acceptable legally.
My boy like SA and YS.
SA- Content coverage non syllabus though there was insertion of "Success Publisher" Science worksheets. We already bought many Science assessments from Popular bookstore.
YS- Content coverage syllabus based with addon worksheets (non unit based) and again…boring exercises.
Can’t comment much on the aftereffect of YS as my boy is P3 this year. Should be Band 2 (75%). -
I am however, surprised why the back copies of YS in Popular sells at the same price as the subscription of new copies (correct me if I am wrong). I would have thought the back copies should be much cheaper.
BTW, what is the difference between YS and SA?
