I have not heard of the \"horror\" stories, but I do come across some of them at Chinese enrchment centres and their Chinese test at the centre are always top top.... and they don't seem to \"relax\" they continue to sign up for holiday daily classes, while I let my child take a break during school holiday. Pandon me if any parent here are from tao nan and that is not the case for you .I've heard lotsa \"horror\" stories abt how tough it is to \"SURVIVE\" at Tao Nan (see link:
http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?p=481&highlight=tao+nan#481
I would like to hear from parents/teachers/whoever affiliated with Tao Nan??, is it really very stressful? Would really appreciate your genuine & truthful experience/insight/comment please....thks in advance...
That means I am not Kiasu enough ..

My kid is in tns.I guess whether its stressful or not in a school, be it tns or any other school, it really depends on your own expectation for the child.I dont think ,so far for my kid class, there is any case like the kid is told to go for extra private tuition. On the contrary, its the parents that signed the kids for marathon tuitions.Hope this helps. -

May I ask which level is your kid in in TNS? How do u cope with the Chinese? Does your child speak Mandarin a lot at home?
I'm considering between TNS and Ngee Ann for my boys who will be in P1 next yr. But I am realistic about the fact that we don't even speak Mandarin at home cos both hubby and my Chinese is \"half past 6\"...:( However, I've started the boys with Chinese class which they seem to enjoy. I am very worried that it will be a very painful 6-year long process for them if I put them in TNS. What is your opinion about this, considering the home environment is mainly English speaking?
thanks! -

Hello Parents,
Pardon my super-kiasuism. Nonetheless, I have some questions to ask and it would be great if you guys could give me some valuable advice.
I am looking at purchasing a property and it is within 1km of Haig Girls’ and Tanjong Katong Primary.
Haig Girls’ looks promising with their Percentage of (merged stream) pupils eligible for Special/ Express Course[with E/N(A)] at 86.6%.
However it seems that Tanjong Katong Primary School has gained a good reputation in terms of being a school of students from various countries. While I applaud the diverse mix of students, I am concerned about its academic abilities.
As parents, we are torn between a rock and a hard place – giving our children the childhood they deserve and the best education we can afford. That aside, I was surfing TKPS website and their PSLE results are either slightly better than or worse than the national average. It does not show how many percent of their PSLE graduates are eligible for Special/Express, N(A) or N(T). Perhaps I should do more research that may quell my doubts.
My question thus is for parents who have children in TKPS:
1.\tWhy did you send your children to this school (besides being within 1/2km)
2.\tWhat is the culture of this school like
3.\tDo you think your child is less stressed/happier
Tao Nan/Kong Hwa Primary
I live within 2km and I’m considering Parent Volunteering (PV) though its as good as free labor. Some questions:
4. I can be a PV at only one school, right?
5. Do you guys know of anyone who live within 2km, Pved and managed to get her/his child in or what is the % like. Very, very slim?
Thank you. -
EON:
EON, u can PV in more than one school. But during 2B registration time, u have to make a decision as u can only register in one school.Tao Nan/Kong Hwa Primary

From past years trend, here are ur chances:
Tao Nan- 2006/2007 : no ballot if u stay within 2km. But for 2008 u do need to ballot.
Kong Hwa - 2006: need to ballot if u stay within 2km. But for 2007/2008 u do not need to ballot if u stay within 2km.
Do note some schools may be quite strict in their PV selection, ie not as if u want to PV, u get to PV. -
yes. i also curious to know why ngee ann primary seems like a ‘back up’ choice… also thinking of letting my child go .
but i read from somewhere that the school is very chinese oriented (which is true, i have been to the school), but i also notice alot of malays n indians… -
I stay outside 2km of Tao Nan and am considering whether to sign up for the SHHK member. But heard that it is not guarranteed and is thinking whether I should spend $524 joining SHHK. My husband is old boy of St Stephens but of course, comparing the 2 schools, Tao Nan is my preferred choice since I have a boy and girl. Any advice?

Quite risky for u as Tao Nan conducted balloting under phase 2B for those staying 1-2km only last year. So if you are out of 2km, u may not even get a chance to ballot.
My advice is join SHHK PLUS move within 1km if u really wants Tao Nan. -
