Heyya tamarind,
Yup! Very right…
Shouldn’t give less than the best!
That’s a parent’s responsibility bringing children into this world. -

Hi mommies
I just wanted to share my observation on a PCF kindy/cc near my place - Sparkletots at Bt Batok West Ave 6.
Last Saturday, on my way to breakfast, I happened to peeped into the centre and saw a group of kids seated in front of the TV set. They were watching a children’s program, judging from the music coming out of the TV set. The time was 9+am. There were probably about 8-10 kids in total huddled in front of the TV set, with no teacher/adult in sight.
I had a long breakfast with my family lasting more than 1 hr, and on the way back while passing the centre, I saw that the kids were still watching TV!!
Question that comes to mind immediately:
- how long were the kids put in front of the TV that morning?
- is this the norm daily or it just happened to be Saturday so teachers take it easy?
- where are the teachers? Should they not be supervising the kids while they are watching TV?
I don’t have the answer. For a mommy who is going to put her kid in a CC soon, of course I was uncomfortable with such arrangements.
The purpose of my sharing is so that anyone of you contemplating putting your kid in this centre, do check and clarify with the principal/teacher if such heavy TV watching is the norm. -

It's Saturday. That's when childcare teachers get to let down their hair and kids get to watch their favorite parliamentary debates on TV. -

Yes, 4 years ago when i enquired the learning vision near my work place, this is also their saturday programme. no academic teaching on saturday. kids can choose to watch tv or do craftwork so i guess most will choose tv.koppie:

Hi Ags,
Sorry for the late reply. I was very busy the past few weeks and did not have time to visit this forum.
My girl has a very good foundation in phonics since she was 4 years old. I also let her read the Ladybird key word reading scheme. She completed all 12 levels before 5 years old. She is reading very well, and her good foundation in phonics make spelling very easy for her. Since last year, I made her write a few sentences about what she did every day, her writing improves very quickly.
She is in K2 now, and this is her latest spelling test :
1. There are many animals in the zoo.
2. The giraffe has a long neck.
3. The zebra has black and white stripes.
All the above within one test !
I asked my girl whether her classmates can cope. She said that only a few have no problem. The others try to copy from them
I am also happy to know that my girl is learning Hanyu Pinyin in her PCF class now. I think it is quite well taught. -

Hi all,
Every PCF kindergarten is different. It is important to choose carefully.
Checkout my blog about the teaching materials, spelling lists, etc in my girl's K1 class at PCF (662B Jurong West).
