I have observed that you view popularity and ranking of your DC's JC as of great importance. I pity your insecurity and inmaturity.Nyjc cut-off-point is 6 and 7. YES!
Parents and students are able to see clearly and decide for themselves their choiced JC- NYJC regardless of the existence of the non- NYJC parents or unwelcomed visitors here in this forum who try very hard to stir unnecessarily troubles and anxieties.
If these people wish to know more about NYJC, they are welcome.
But funny is they dont intend to enrol their kids in NYJC OR their kids are already in another JC YET keep coming to NYJC forum.
But if their intention is to create fear and affect potential students opting for NYJC, TRY harder folks.....
NYJC is not the Top few Tier JCs but :
- it has been improving... and the college is always reviewing its academic stragtegy to fine tune it.
To the JC1 admitted into NYJC this year, WELCOME !!!
What do you mean by 'parents and students are able to see clearly' when there isn't much reliable sources of information about nyjc past A level performances?
As a matter of fact, most parents and students chose nyjc based on last year COP of 6, its strategic location next to an mrt station and that it does not comprise of IP students who are potentially stronger in academics.
It's unfair of you to accuse others of trying to 'stir troubles and anxieties'. Instead, they are just trying to defend other JCs that you and some others are trying to bring down. Also, there are many unreliable and misleading information here that needs to be clarified by your so-called unwelcome 'visitors'.
One example is the misdeclaration by a parent here that nyjc has 100% eligibility rate for local U admission whilst comparing it with another JC. The eligibility he/she quoted is actually 'two H2 passes with an attempted GP' upon probing! This is the kind of misleading information to woo potential applicants to nyjc and it's natural that other knowledgeable 'visitors' will come forward to clarify. You can't cheat and try to get away with it, can you? Is that why you do not welcome others who dare challenge you and reveal your intention?
Do you mean that only parents who already have kids in other JCs cannot visit this site even if they wish to look for another jc for other kids? How do you know if they do not intend to enrol their kids to nyjc just because eventually they have chosen other JCs?
Can you elaborate on how nyjc has been improving? I will agree if you are referring to its COP only.
2013 - 8 (sci) 8 (arts)
2014 - 7 8
2015 - 7 7
2016 - 6 7
2017 - 6 7
I am more interested to know about its A level results for each year to prove that they have improved. Do you have all the stats to justify? Don't forget the correlation between COP and A level results. So how do you quantify its 'improvement' which requires offsetting against the COP?
To summarise, it's best for the Principal to disclose more information about nyjc A levels performances so that everyone can make a better decision. Wonder what is the reason for not publishing some key performances in its website when both pupils and teachers have put in effort?
I do not doubt nyjc's performance but I just want the truth and not some dubious figures that some nyjc parents plucked from nowhere and tried hard to compare and mislead. It will be disastrous if the latter is the so-called word-of-mouth that nyjc is gaining popularity. -

While I have said I will leave this thread, I would have expected the thread to be free from hatred, quarrel and misunderstanding.

From what you have said \"One example is the misdeclaration by a parent here that nyjc has 100% eligibility rate for local U admission whilst comparing it with another JC. The eligibility he/she quoted is actually 'two H2 passes with an attempted GP' upon probing!\"
Can you explain how this is a misdeclaration? I stated a FACT that NYJC's eligibility rate to local U is 100%. It is your assumption to misgauge the national standards of the term \"eligibility to local U\". While I have compared it fairly against the different JCs statistics, I didn't feel that I have cheated or lied about anything. On the contrary, you seem to make personal attacks against the proponents of NYJC.
Furthermore, what is your intention of saying \"IP students who are potentially stronger in academics\"? I wont say that top O level students are not comparable to IP students. I wont be surprise if the former can outbeat the latter because students have different learning curves. There were mentions in this thread: https://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=67330&start=1670
Also, there are students with high PSLE scores (250 and above) who opt for non-IP schools, be it reputable schools like Nan Hua or neighbourhood schools, so it is incorrect to say that only students from IP schools are strong in academics. Likewise for students who are top in the respective secondary schools.
As a matter of fact, NJC is also situated close to Tan Kah Kee station, though HCI is closer to the same station. The distance from NJC and NYJC to a train station can be said to be relatively similar (within 10 minutes of walking distance, to be prudent. and if you want to argue about the minute difference, I wouldn't say an extra 2-3 minutes will make much of a difference). Yet we can see that NJC's COP is the same as NYJC for year 2017, 6 for science and 7 for arts. This means that convenience may not be the only factor that attracts students.
As much as I would like to provide concrete evidence, I don't intend to bluff or mislead others, but rather be equitable and just to NYJC when people with no vested interest (or has negative interest) start to fire with allegations. Here is one link to show the winners of the 2016 Chemistry Olympiad, in which many JCs had taken part in. Here's the results:
http://www.chemistry.nus.edu.sg/_file/events/28TH%20Singapore%20Chemistry%20Olympiad%20RESULTS.pdf
From this, it may give us a hint of the students' performance at the A levels. I notice that the colleges with at least 1 silver/gold medal are: (alphabetical order)
ANGLO-CHINESE SCHOOL (INDEPENDENT)
DUNMAN HIGH SCHOOL
HWA CHONG INSTITUTION
NANYANG JUNIOR COLLEGE
NUS HIGH SCHOOL OF MATH AND SCIENCE
RAFFLES INSTITUTION
VICTORIA JUNIOR COLLEGE
National JC, RVHS and Temasek JC being IP JCs are not reflected in the results for silver and above. I am not trying to downplay any JCs, but rather present FACTS. Even one forummer has already mentioned that results are not a nice thing to use to compare, and I have once said that results are sensitive issues to talk about, especially when there is a lack of information.
That much said, I am not initiating any conflicts, but iron out FACTS regarding colleges. I hope the issues can be treated amicably in the future. -

You are not making logical comparison. NJC have HCI directly opposite to compete for top students. This year, it has also EJC within a stone throw at Mt Sinai . NJYC has no top competitor JC nearby. However, things may change when EJC moves back to Sin.Ming end next yearmindays:
I fail to see how the individual performance at Olympiads can be extrapolated to the performance of the entire cohort. The \"A\" Level result will be a good indicator of cohot performance but sadly detailed information is lacking from NYJCAs much as I would like to provide concrete evidence, I don't intend to bluff or mislead others, but rather be equitable and just to NYJC when people with no vested interest (or has negative interest) start to fire with allegations. NYJC has RI nearby, just to clarify. FACTS are statistics that are can be substantiated with evidence. I am sure you can make a good inference based on such competition results. I mean, it is fine if you choose not to.mindays:

Can you just accept NYJC latest Cut Off Point and thats it.
People chose NYJC for many reasons academic and non academic (most importantly they have Confidence in NYJC) but does it matter to you? Why you worry for them.
If you are not genuinely keen in NYJC, its obvious you are not, then you know where to go and go to your ' Liked' JC forum.
Thanks. -
Aiyo this is indeed a kaisu parents forumn ! If really so kiasi dont choose the school.
My boy who qualified for a better JC has chosen NYJC. After visiting few JCs open house , he told me he made up his mind to choose NYJC. He said he liked the school environment, distance and the school hours attracted him. I said fine and good luck to him.
He was delighted when he was posted to NYJC. The first day of school back, he told me many of his classmates were all 3 to 5 pointers. They are qualified for a better JCs but all chosen NYJC because of the distance and school hours.
So please parents don’t be too bother about the school standard. Most important our kids must like the school environment and distance also play apart.
If have doubts on the dont choose the JC.
All the best to NYJC kids ! -

I dunno what's happening here.
I hv seen students from popular JCs doin poorly and those from less popular JCs acing the A lvls. To me, whichever JC or A lvl ctr does not matter. The right attitude, diligence and humility to learn are more important for success.
But agree with you and Congratulations from me too! -

What don't you ask mindays who started all this JC competitive comparison to stop? :evil. Apparently you did not, that just show how objective you are
I definitely accept whatever COP NYJC has but its the baselees comparison and putting down of other JCs that we do not see eye to eye with, ok ?
