Singapore Chinese Girls School (Secondary)

Parmesean:
Hi,
I am new to the forums and I'm hoping that people will bear with me. My daughter is also new to SCGS, having just transferred after the march holidays.
I was just wondering, does anyone know where to get the SCGS hoodie? The green one with the SCGS wordings in yellow?
Hello, I am a student. They do not sell the hoodie anymore. I think the last time it was sold was during the SCGS carnival (2014/2015)? I'm not sure if it will be restocked, because the school was selling it at the carnival at a higher price and could not finish all the stock, then decreased the price to $30 for better sales later. It was $30 at its cheapest but it's not that worth the price.
She will have a sec 4 batch jacket, so I suggest keeping it simple by wearing the dark blue jacket. It's quite warm

My dd is contemplating about scgs. Some questions i would like to ask:
1. Is the work load heavy? Is there homework every single day?
2. Is the school’s main focus on chinese language? My dd wants to take dsa for english but is worried she cannot catch up with the rest of the students for chinese. She is average at chinese, not too bad but not the best.
3. What time does the school start?
4. Is the environment there good? Facilities, Other students and teachers etc. -
Why did u change ? Will there be difficulty in catching up ?
-
Sorry are you replying to me? I dont really understand the question :scratchhead:

My dd’s friend’s older brother who studies in Hwa Chong went to SCGS for a collaboration project. He says that the girls there were very rough and rowdy. Not sure if true. Anyone can confirm? Or it is the same with all girl schools?

Hello there Rae4Kids,My dd is contemplating about scgs. Some questions i would like to ask:

To answer your questions briefly,
1. Not so much in secondary 1/2 but yes, hw is given out almost everyday for upper secondary. Workload increases throughout secondary school, as does CCA commitment.
2. No. English here in SC is usually innate. As for Chinese, I'm not sure about higher Chinese but I did normal Chinese and I felt that it was generally okay. My Chinese was also average.
3. School starts promptly at 7.25/7.30 AM for assembly (if I remember correctly). Actual classes start at 7.50 AM.
4. It's very homey. Teachers are very helpful. I for one, had first hand experience with caring teachers. If your DD is not from SC primary, she may feel slightly out for the first few days or so but as the weeks go by, new cliques will form. I wouldn't be too worried about making friends straight off the bat! Facilities are great. Many places are air conditioned (KA, LT, Shaw Hall and special rooms to name a few)
Hope that helped! Feel free to PM me if you have other questions.
Cheers! -

Hi again Rae4Kids,
That is untrue. Maybe slightly loud/rowdy but I wouldn't say rough is the right word... Girls be girls... There's bound to be lot's of chit-chatting. Loud or not, I enjoyed my time in SCGS thoroughly.

Thank you so much for clearing my doubts and answering my other questions! :thankyou:
However I have just realised SCGS is not a autonomous school, which means expensive school fees which can be $300+ :yikes: We are not able to receive a financial assistance plan based on our monthly income but it is still very ex. -
Can check if anyone knows what is the PSLE cut-off points for those accepted in SCGS via DSA?
