Some advice for confused students out there. For most JCs, the materials are pretty much similar. What’s different is the environment and culture.

I had been in both an elite school and a neighborhood school. The experience was totally different. In a neighborhood school, the pace is usually slower and less competitive. For students who did really well, you might just get complacent and find your grades dropping (that’s what happened to me). Although I scored 60s in prelims, I thought that was okay because most other students failed. In an elite school, you are constantly forced to work hard and compete with the top students. In fact, most students go beyond academic, participating in leadership programmes and CCA. It’s the kind of environment that makes you hungry.

The next issue to tackle will be your combination. Be sure of what you can excel in. Based on my experience as a tutor, I would urge all students who intend to take H2 Bio to take some time to drop by a bookstore. Look at the topics, especially DNA and genomics. Most students who came to me had regretted that they took H2 Biology. It’s a totally different thing from O level.

        Hi there,

My l1r5 is 13 and l1r4 is 12 after deducting my bonus points.
I have always wanted to go to Meridian jc and its also the closest to my house as I stay in the east. As Meridian (11 pts) and Tampines jc (13pts) are merging, moe states that the COP of such schools may increase. So do you think I still have a chance to get into tpmjc?

There are also other options such as millenia (l1r4 - 16 for science) but I am not sure if I would be motivated to study there even though the fact that the syllabus is spread out into 3 years is appealing.

anderson jc (11) and serangoon jc (13) which have similar COP as mjc and tpjc are also merging. So should I give that a chance too?

I think I can get into Pioneer jc (13) and Jurong jc (15) which are merging but it's really far away from my house.

I am really lost and confused as I don't know what to do now. I can't get into most jcs in the east. I always wanted to take the A levels and I have not come to a decision on what to take in poly either.

Please help this poor soul 😞
In addition, I am confused as to what order I should place my jcs,
        - meridian/tamp (11 points sci) - 30 mins travel time
        - anderson/serangoon (9 points sci) - 1 hr travel time
        - yishun/ innova (16 points sci) - 1 hr travel time
        - pioneer/ jurong (12 points sci) - 1hr 15 mins travel time
        - millenia (16 points sci) - 45 mins travel time

All the jcs I have mentioned (other than millenia) are merging, hence, their COP are expected to increase by 1 or 2 points max. Please help me on which order I should place these jcs. I need to submit the options by tonight so please help me with my future :?: Thank you.

You have several options, so put the Meridian/Tampines choice first, if that is the one you want most. Just arrange the choices in order of preference as the computer will run through your options in order and give you the first one which has a vacancy.

MI is not a bad school - my daughter went there and the pace and support enabled her to do well enough to get in NTU, something we never thought possible. And it's not that far to travel for you.

HELP! Which JC should I go to with L1R5 11 pts nett/ 9 pts after minus 2pts

            Im staying in the east.

            In mind science stream:
AJCJ - 7 cut off point (not sure if i should try to put as first choice thou im 9 pointer)
SAJC - 9 cut off point (is it true as heard the culture is better but concern about the passing rate to enter local uni)
AJC - 9 cut off point (is it true that they are famous for harder paper and retainer is high, concern about the merging with Serangoon JC)
TJC - 9 cut off point (heard the culture is not so good and student arrogant)

Anyone can advise on the passing rate for A level to enter local uni (NTU/NUS and SMU) is higher and the culture of the school as still dilemma of which school to choose.

If you are considering ACJC, you can also consider EJC which is nearby , last year COP is 9.

Is EJC good as it is a new school and hence never hear any feedback?

Go and check out the Eunior Junior College thread in this forum.

It is an up and coming IP JC being set up. Read the thread, many positive feedback on the school, teachers and the environment. It is being \"groomed\" to be one of the top JC in Singapore

Not sure about other JCs except AJC. My nephew went to AJC and did very well (CPM and EconH1) and got offers from NTU and NUS.

DO NOT go to a JC just because your L1R5 happens to fit the bill.
