Hwa Chong Institution (High School)

Son went for DSA once, if I've learnt anything, sometimes it's not about how much talent you have but how 'ok' your grades are. Some schools just want to meet the DSA intake criteria without sacrificing their overall academic standard.Hello,
I'm a new parent here on this forum.
I'm curious to know what are the chances for my daughter, who is taking her O level in a neighbourhood sec school in Sin Ming road, to enter Hwa Chong Institution via DSA. Here are a few of her achievements:
- Vice Head Prefect (Prefectorial Board)
- Head Secretary (St John Ambulance Brigade)
- Sergeant (St John Ambulance Brigade)
- Chief Commissioner Badge (St John Ambulance Brigade)
- Class Secretary (School, class-based)
- 2005 track-n-field national ranked top 16th in 100M B division 100m sprint
- Model Pupil
She has also won various awards in leadership and represented her secondary school in chinese composition writing competition, chinese riddle competition, didn't won anything but represented sch.
Any idea how much is her chances to get into HCI via DSA (JC) - Leadership?
Her academic is just average. Strong in Humanities, weak in sciences.
I need your input on this.
Thank you.
Rgds,

Anyone know when nov/Dec school holidays start?
From 24 November. -
I saw from the school calendar that thereโs a "re-exams" period from 26-29 Novโฆwhat does this mean? Applicable to Sec1s? Thanks!

Hi, what are the requirements for the hwa chong holistic education certificate, merit and distinction. My son is confused because all his classmates seem to be doing cep projects as they told him it is one of requirement? Anyone can enlighten on this issue? Thanks

Hi VooVoo, all Sec 1 boys will progress to Sec 2 regardless of results. As far as I know, there is no re exams f Sec 1.
-
Quick check with parents here - is Sec 1 supposed to be a honeymoon year? I already seem to think the son is busy and stretched (albeit happily) in Sec 1 already. Not sure how he will be able to cope in subsequent years if the load is going to increase further

Stretched indeed and often times, the commitments overlap and need to juggle these commitments :nailbite: Last week was a crazy week - started off with their project presentation, then a history test, followed by third lang test, english test, science pratical test and finished off with a debate, and all graded
So glad that this week is \"test-free\" :boogie:

My DS had it slightly better last week, as he does not read 3rd lang; sci practical was previous week, and his group is not scheduled for debates as yet.
This week he has half a CL test of sorts.
I'm actually not keeping up. But there seems to be a mountain of group work?
I can't imagine when CCA load hits full swing. Most Sec 1s are not competing (for Sports), or performing (for Aesthetics) in Term 1- I guess CCA will hit the Sec 1s full swing now/soon.
