English for my son. I have not heard him communicating with friends in Mandarin in day to day conversations. Whatsapps also in English lol πŸ™‚

Some traces of Mandarin are...... (1) some listen to Mandarin songs; (2) mugging for Chinese debates lol πŸ™‚

English. Although the irony of it all is that my J1 son (who cleared HCL in sec 4) now wishes he had spent more time learning chinese properly in High School. He really laments the lack of opportunities to use Chinese in school now (since no one at home speaks it) and he is finding it actually really useful in real life to be very conversant in Chinese.

Maybe that is the magic of HCI.. :snuggles:

Speaking of which, HCI frequently hosts exchange students on campus. My son is completely blown away by the quality of the high school kids from China (they aren't even from like the absolute top high schools in China).... I think the exposure is good πŸ™‚ Recently he downloaded wechat to keep in touch with some of them.

😒 my went to the open house and likes HCI. We also think HCI fits perfectly except for the traffic and distance challenge. 😒
I don't know why but my son always wants to be in school early! between 645 and 7 am. So though we don't live that far away, we also end up leaving the house before 6.30am

If I live in bedok, I think have to leave at 6am.
We stay in Tanah Merah, my Son leave at 6.15am. He left home at 6am in Sec one and later 6.15am.

Is Chinese Debate one of the CCA? I am only aware of Debate as a CCA and I had assumed it to be in English only πŸ™‚ Can any parent help me in understanding this? Thank you.

I think what doodbug is referring to are the Chinese debates held in class during HCL lesson time.

sorry I can’t help with the iSpark COP question - I’m actually very glad that my DS is not in iSpark. He settled down well in in allocated class. Oh I think Ortus hosts the Bilingual special programme. Those kids get to be emcees and hosts for many events.
