In schools like NYPS, students are graded and group in high, mid and low ability classes (excluding GEP) and their HCL standard is one of the highest in Singapore. If you are one of the student or parents from NYPS low ability classes you will start to feel the stress in the competitive environment long before PSLE. And despite all the stress, there is no guarantee your child will get 250 and above. if parents are concern about stress, then they should focus on O-level program instead of IP.
Score 250 in NYPS will get you into NYGH. Score 250 in RGPS and you won’t even get into any IP school in the West. Isn’t it more stressful for a child in RGPS to do even better if she is aiming for IP? -
Agree with that too.
Basically, parents should choose a school that fits our child and not which school produces the most high scorers. If our child is academically advanced, thrives in competitive environment, then whether environment is stressful or not is probably not a crucial factor.
If our kid crumbles under stress, then pick a less competitive environment.
If there is an affiliated secondary school, then of course kid may feel less at stake and hence less pressure. -

Generally speaking, if parents wish to send your kids to one of those \"branded\" schools along Bukit Timah they must be prepared to invest time and resources in their child development because majority of students from these schools come from above average families. And there will always be a rat race among parents when it comes to exotic enrichment programs. And this is the part where I feel parents will get the most stress, as some will feel their own child is not given enough enrichment to keep up with the Joneses.
Agree with that too.

And this is perhaps the reason why MOE has decided to remove the exam and test for lower primary so that parents have less avenue to compare results. This is not to say that NYPS is not a good school. Ultimately parents need to access the child's pace of development. -

250 in NYPS, can go back to Affliated Nanyang Girls High, for NYPS girls who scored

- 247 +3 (HCL bonus),
- 248 + 2,
- 249 + 1
Under AL (from year 2021), how will HCL bonus be applied ? during computer balloting ?
Those who do HCL will enter first before those who didn't do HCL, HCL students be given priority first, since NYGH is SAP school ? -
Understand RGPS does not want to publicise registration stats on a whiteboard inside its general office this year, is it a norm MOE instructed all school to do so, or just the practice of RGPS? In such case, how do parents know whether they need to "switch" to another school on the last day of 2C registration?

It’s the discretion of the school. They have no obligation to disclose.

We are all waiting anxiously for the news too. -
I have 2 girls from RGPS, one graduated in 2017, and younger one in P3 currently. I would say the school has reduced the stress level & workload over the last few years. In fact, no longer offer HMT since P1 by default. The girls on the whole are self-motivated, and many of them strive to achieve good performance (not just academic but in CCA etc). I let my girls do what they like with minimum supervision. I only want them to develop good learning habits, be responsible and enjoy their school life.
