      Hi,

I understand that 8 the minimum subjects to take in yr3/4. Do most girls still take 9 subjects though?

Also, it seems like the girls don’t do social studies at upper Sec. Instead they have this subject called ‘Inquiry and Advocacy’. Has this always been the case, or is this a recent development, as I thought social studies is mandatory subject at upper secondary.

      Appreciate any sharings. Thanks!

Regarding Social Studies, because IP students do not take the O levels, some IP schools do not do Social Studies, while some other IP schools study Social Studies. It is not compulsory since they dont take the O levels so it is up to the schools to decide.

The ones I know do 9 subjects because if you look at the subject combinations, to do 8 means to give up one science.

Actually, can still do triple science with 8 subjects: 2 Lang, 2 Math, I&A, 3 Sc. I think there will be a handful who would choose this combi.

Thanks for the information… For 8 subject combination, i see on the slide that it is mandatory to have One more humanities or special program subject other than I&A, so at most 2 sciences possible.

              Hey Parents,

I am a second year law student in NUS and am producing video to increase visibility to higher education in Singapore through sharing study tips and hacks for A/O levels and my experience in through various Singapore schools and now in University. The goal of this channel is to build a collaborative and supportive study community in Singapore and beyond.

Oppss... I guess I got it mixed up with NYGH, where they allow 3Sc + IH (as the only humanities subjects) for their 8-subject combi.... 😄

In nygh, only 1H allowed? At upper Sec, is LA still one subject or split into English and literature? A bit surprising coz I thought nygh has strong focus on languages and humanities.

I do not think (but I am not certain since I am not privy to every school’s subject combi), other schools have such school-specific subjects, therefore the H will be the usual ones we are familiar with.

OT: Hi... Yes, in my dc2's school too, there are school-specific humanities subjects (which are compulsory in Y3-4), so triple science students do Not have to offer History or Geography (Literature is incorporated into English & called Language Arts). Nonetheless, afaik, they are still allowed to offer History or Geography in Y5-6...

Is that so? So in his school, an 8-subject combi comes in the form of, 3Sc + 1H and the H is that school specific H subject (which is not G and His)? But then E Lit is compulsory and incorporated into EL. So effectively, this student is doing 9 subjects (3Sc and 2H) but have 8 grades on his report book. 😓

By the way, any recommendation for sec sch higher chinese tuition.
