    • RE: Why students study more during school holidays

isnt it the usual practice for all JCs to hv common tests/mye/bock tests/timed practice (whatever they are called) right after June holidays? Almost impossible for JC kids not to study/revise/catch up during this holiday. How much to study will really depend on how focused/effective each individual is.

Imagine the kid reaches home from sch at 6pm, takes a nap and by the time the kid wakes up, it’s 9pm. Takes a shower and dinner and by the time she settles down to study, it’s almost 11pm, which is bedtime! 😂

For me, I sleep an average of 6hrs and my power nap is like 20mins? It’s not that I have not tried to wake my DD2 up from naps but it’s almost impossible cos she goes into very deep sleep.

Let’s not forget she has short attention span issues, so it will take her longer than usual for her to settle down and she can’t focus for long, every 5mins she will figet with something (pencil case, tissue etc.)
Didn’t know ADHD can also affect the dopamine level. Like what the newspaper article says, it gives others an impression the child is “unmotivated”.
Does your child get frustrated easily with herself? Like she knows she needs to be working faster and be more focused and yet somehow she can’t stop herself from feeling tired or spaced out or procrastinating.

For someone with ADD traits, it seems like even if the person stays away from devices, she can still be distracted by her own thoughts. It’s really not so straight forward as say just keep devices away from the child.

    • RE: All About Overseas Education

Colleague’s daughter went to NUS Biz initially but did not like the environment as everyone was kind of kind forced to speak up actively in class. Don’t think she is too much of an introvert as she was the chair of interact club and applied for many internships actively.

After 1 year she took a test and switched to some data science course even with no computing background and enjoyed it a lot more. Graduating soon…

The general perception that only people who cannot enter local uni goes Australia uni- is it still true? Even for those going Melbourne, Sydney uni etc.

Unfortunately the person whose name is in the joint name account may not be that honest in the end. I am surrounded by cases of friends whose aunties and uncles refused to take out the money in joint names accounts after the elderly passed away. If amount is 5 or 6 digits and there are a few siblings to share, some families may not come to consensus to sue the dishonest sibling because after legal fees and hassle, may not have much left. I think it is just disgusting that one can be so shameless but such people always exist.
But I guess only the child that the parent has a joint account with knows the real intention so to speak, although i highly think it is more for ease of administration as both parents were in bad health and more home bound in the final years. Parents have accounts with each of 2 sons, but not the only daughter, although daughter also contributed to years of medical bills. But sons are very filial though, and the main ones to bring parents for medical checkups, etc etc.

One son is single and have been staying with parents, so the other son (the elder one) says that since the single son has been taking care of parents and that parents have mentioned before that they want him to continue staying in the HDB, then he is ok to give up his share and let the single son inherit the HDB. Single son has a number of private properties, but as the flat is bought in the 1970s, HDB confirmed that he can inherit the house. So the daughter basically has to give up her share of the flat too.

Thing is, when the wake expenses had to be shared, the daughter has to pay a share too. No one mentions using the money that parents left behind to make up for the difference.

If can, just split equally ba. My thinking is if still have property for them then and they have own home..will hope that they rent it out and split the rental income.
I think for our generation we will definitely make it clear in terms of writing. But to share rental income can be quite messy I think. It would mean everything else like property tax, expenses have to be shared. And also the effort of maintaining the house, managing the tenants etc.. better idea to sell and split I think.

      Not necessarily:

      https://singaporelegaladvice.com/law-articles/joint-bank-account-monies-one-owner-dies/[/quote]

Tks, this is looking from the legal perspective. I was more referring to the case when the child has no legal problem taking over the joint account. In such cases, would most think that it is only right that the child keep all the money to himself, or should be distributed evenly among siblings? I do understand that there is no right or wrong answer in such cases, unless the other siblings feel strongly against the child keeping all the money to himself, to the extent of going to court.

If parents have joint fixed deposit accounts with a particular child, or a few children (but not all), is it a silent understanding that whatever amount in those fixed deposits belong to the respective child when the parents have passed on? Parents left no will.
