The plot is very fantastic if write about losing trust or integrity but i wonder how the writer could link it to one of the pictures in the compo? I thought that was essential ?

my kid says she wrote about losing her cat and her mother's trust because of it.

She is worried that this is too cliche. One of her friends (who already has DSA CO) wrote from the cat viewpoint of losing a home... That is more risky.

Your children have such good memory! My son simply left everything behind the moment he left the exam room. It is always like that for every test or exam. I can never ask anything specific. Dont say the question, even if I reproduce the question (based on what I heard somewhere else), he cannot remember his answer.

He did mention this year's compo was different. Not easy, he said.

I asked if anyone didnt finish the compo. He said he knew two of his classmates could not finish and that was only because they mentioned so. And I went,\"aiya, towards the end, when the invigilator starts to count down, you can spot who are still frantically writing. Those are likely the ones.\"

His reply was,\" Mommy, I am one of these people lor.\"

          Oh boi 😆

I wonder about the expectations of composition for our P6 kids .

Does a more mature theme like losing trust score more marks? Is the writing “better” because it involves uncommon or “deeper” meaning ?

            Kids should be kids .
Actually, I feel this is a rather versatile topic.
for \"high ability mature\" kids and for normal avg kids to write avg things

This composition topic looks simple \"something that was lost\" but i personally feel that it is challenging as the theme was not given directly unlike past PSLE qns \"teamwork\", you know exactly what to write about.

This type of composition is indirect. The child must be able to look at the topic \"something that was lost\" - link to picture - link to a theme. It is very broad and leave to child's imagination on the theme that they want to write.

The theme can also be anything as long as the story make sense and use the picture.

                    1) Being honesty/ integrity

                    2) Being thankful/gratitude to the person finding the lost item

                    3) Being responsible/accountability/carelessness
                    Etc..

The child may not be able to score if they didn't see that they need to link that the topic to a theme as it is indirect..
To me, I think those P6 students who can link back the main theme \"Losing something\" to some significant moral character value,
will tend to score higher marks in their PSLE composition, because of their deeper maturity thinking through thoughts displayed, behind the interesting story plot written. That's how the PSLE markers separate out the A * from the normal A, for composition writing (Paper 1).

The same, apply to Chinese zuowen next week. Paper 1 apply to both compo, both (English and Chinese). Not just to English compo only

And once you managed to score well for compo, if your Paper 2 also good, not too many mistakes made, plus your Oral also decent, then you are well on your way to score an A *, in your languages.

Anyone thinks it’s alright to write about losing one’s honesty? Because strictly speaking, you can’t lose your honesty, you lose your integrity? Can one lose your honesty?
He wrote about picking up the hp and succumbed to the temptation of keeping it for himself, regretted his act but did not have the courage to return. Kept the hp as a reminder for himself not to again. But instead of integrity, he said “I lost my honesty.” Do you think he will be penalised?
I think end of the day, it depends on how the plot is linked back to at least one of the 3 pics. So long can link back, and the plot is reasonable, chances of out of point or get penalised is low. Of course don't write cock and bull stories lah like aliens suddenly appears from nowhere.

Will the child loose mark or off topic if he wrote this.

He comes back from school can’t find the beloved cat, search high n low , called the mum still cannot find, then the mum suggest to put up lost n found poster within the neighborhood. Finally the dad return home and says he had brought the cat to a vet and had forgotten to bring the cat back.
His ending is he will never ever lose this cat that meant the life to him.
