      #1. For Lower Secondary Science,

      a) In Sec 1, are they taking \"one Science\" class and the topics are either Chem or Physics related depending on the week/term? Or, is it more like taking two different science classes?

      b) In Sec 2, is Bio added? Earlier posts (quite a while ago) indicated it was, but I saw the Sec 2 booklist is still just Chem and Physics. I.e. if Bio is not added in Sec 2 and students do not opt for Bio in Sec 3-4, they will not take Bio at all (seems OK as most university requirements can be met with Physics or Chem).

      Thanks

Hey there! Just wanted to add some stuff altho it's not that related to ur qn:

Regarding the Chem and physics textbooks in the booklist, HCI actually produces its own science notes, so the textbooks are really just for extra reference. tbh I rarely touched the books (if at all)

Also, as a side note, JC students can opt to take H2 Biology even without taking Bio in High School should they wish to šŸ™‚

Hi. Thank you. I was aware of the H2 Bio option but figured it was not common (if didn't take in Sec 3-4). I think my boy is unlikely to take Bio in Sec 3-4 (or H2) so was just curious if it showed up in lower Sec. The internal notes answers why there is no textbook listed for Bio. I think the Chem and Physics books were two of the more expensive ones -- hopefully they will do more than just collect dust šŸ˜‚

        at the end of IP4,

for Promotional streaming year-end exam into Hwa Chong JC1 subject combination,

        do IP4 students
from both ( Hwa Chong & Nanyang Girls High), take the same common identical (mid-year and year-end) exam papers for these few core-tested subjects

        1) Integrated Maths,

        2) Physics / Chem / Bio,

        3) History / Geography,

        4) English language &

        5) gao-hua (HCL),

        so that
there is a common basis yard-stick of measurement for them,
to stream-line (sort out) all these IP4 students into various different JC1 subject combination,
which is dependent upon their IP4 year-end Promotional results performance ?

        Example

say, an IP4 student gotten a "C5" or "C6" grade in Physics,

from either (Hwa Chong or NYGH),

and therefore decided to drop Physics,

since pupil is poor in Physics, no confidence to continue study A-level Physics anymore,

so intend to switch over to Biology in JC1, despite never taken Bio before in the earlier Years (IP3 nor IP4),
is this allowed by your JC1 Bio (Head-of-department) ?

Is there any internal bridging course in JC1, either bridging for (H1 or H2 Biology),
for students who have never done Bio before in (IP3 & 4 ) ?

        If Yes,
how do they bridge this Bio course, and
take how long to bridge ?

Hello, anyone can shed a light on the morning traffic during schooldays? I have searched for info but came up with only 2011/2016.
How bad is the traffic before/after covid in the morning along the high school side?
Any info is much appreciated as I have to travel from North side
          Thank you
I'm in North as well, Woodlands.

There is school bus but pickup very early, around 6.10am, reach HCI 7am.

So to give my DS a bit more sleeping time, me and one of my DS classmate father will rotate weekly send them to HCI and pick them up after school as well.

          Rotate still not so bad.

Try to see any of your DS primary school classmate going HCI as well.

For my DS, 2 of his classmates in primary entered HCI as well.

A gentle reminder to all drivers sending your DS/DD to schools in bukit timah, please do not daydream, if you slow to move off by few secs, the traffic built up from PIE at Eng Neo/Adam is terrible.

Alternatively, PIE → Stevens road → bukit timah.

Fyi, school textbooks are available now, including those indicated as avail after 22 Dec. Those who already confirmed school posting may wanna go get them before posting results are out to avoid the crowd next week.

Try this. Select HCI and Sec 1.

They don't take common exam paper. For HCI , all the examable subjects which you study in Sec 3 and 4 will be included in to the MSG including Project work ( but this year only those who got A1 and A2 for Project work will be added in)
For NYGH, their MSG is calculated using L2R5.

For my son, he don't really like bio so he never take bio for this Sec 3 and 4. If he studied bio, it will be the 10th subject for him ( he took German when he was in Sec 3) which will be included in the MSG no matter it is good or not. Not like in NYGH, only include 5 best subjects into MSG . And I was told that in JC , student can only take 2 sci subjects. I confirm that my son won't study bio in JC so l agreed with him not to take bio as he will need extra time for this subject. He was in STMP therefore I am afraid that he would be too busy. However, if your son is interested in bio. He should be able to cope with it.
