At end of Sec 2 streaming,

when come to choosing Sec 3 subject combination,
              nowadays,
many schools encourage their Sec 2 students to target towards "double" concept choice of combination. That means, target 8 subject combination.

Everything, work on "double" concept !

              Hence,
for "O-level" track Express stream, it is common to see year end Sec 2 students taking Sec three 8 subject combination, because everything also "double " up

This common 8 subject combination, constitute (comprise)

              1) "double" languages

That is, include English and (Standard Mother Tongue or Higher Mother tongue)

              2) "double" Maths

That is, students sit for both O-level ( "Additional" Maths & "Elementary" Maths ).

              3) "double" Pure Sciences

Since Chemistry is compulsory, can make your choice, between Pure (Physics or Biology), for your second Science subject.

Boys usually tend to choose "Physics", if they are targeting for Engineering based university courses later on, in future.

              4) "double " Humanities

              a) your First humanities, is your "Elective", that accompany the compulsory "Social Studies" (SS). Elective, together with SS, form one single subject, altogether.

Elective, can be (History, Geography, Literature).

              b) your Second Humanities, can be the popular O-level Economics, SEAB exam subject "2286",

              or

the Core or Full (History / Geography / Literature)

The reason why many schools nowadays, encouraged "double" humanities, is because

In the unfortunate event, if O-level students did not do well in their compulsory "Social Studies" Hmanities, at least, they still have another second Core / Full Humanities to fall back upon, to rescue them, in their final computation on overall Raw score "L1R5", admission entry for JCs/ Polytechnic. The lower the original Raw L1R5 score, the better it is.

              =========================

For students in Presbyterian High, who are taking the 9th or 10th O-level subject combination,

              - what is your number 9th subject ?

can be your Triple 3rd Pure Science subject.

              - then, what is your number 10th subject ?

can be your 3rd foreign language taught at MOELC :-

              (Spanish / German / Japanese / French)

To sit for the O-level #10th subject, students need to seek approval from the school / MOE, first.

Students need to prove to school that they have the confidence (ability) to tackle and manage their 9 subjects first, before school approve student to sit for his (her) number 10th O-level subject.

Actually, 9th subject combination itself, is already a very heavy workload.

If a student is barely able to cope, can’t breathe, under stress struggling with 8 or 9 subject combination, school won’t approve the pupil taking number 10th subject

For O-level track in Presbyterian High school,

under the Sec 3 "8-subject" combination,

if end-of-Sec 2 students wish to take O-level Economics (SEAB subject 2286), Yes, can, our school allow.

                However,
PHS allow Econs (2286) combination to go with maximum at the very most, "double" Sciences only, thus students choose either :-

                Pure (Chemistry + Physics)

                Or

                Pure (Chemistry + Biology),

                since Chemistry is compulsory.

If heading / targeting future Engineering-based career(s) in universities later on , choose Physics preferably.

                However,
PHS don’t allow Econs to go with Triple Pure Sciences,

                because

too many subjects to handle, to cope with, since
"Social Studies" is compulsory for all O-level track students.
Hence, it is compulsory to take the "Elective" Humanities too,

                because

"Elective" + Social Studies, are lumped together, as "one" single subject.

Thus, during O-level exam, it is not sufficient to do well only in your "Elective", but also need to do well in your "Social studies" part too,

                because

If do well only in the "Elective" component, but do badly in the partner "Social studies" (SS), overall, your humanities grade will be pulled down, since (SS + Elective) are lumped together, as one single subject, cannot separate them.

Likewise, the other way round, can also happen. If do well in SS, but fared poorly in "Elective" portion, overall will also be pulled down. Hence, during year end Sec 2 streaming exercise, need to consider, choose which Elective wisely, out of the three available choices (Literature / History / Geography), + also consider & factor in your own interests in that subject domain.

The lesser number of subjects to sit for at O-level National exam, the better the students tend to do well in their L1R5, because time is of essence, in your revision time-table planning management & execution strategies.

                      Applicants seeking Transfer

2021 Sec 2 students (born 2007, piggies) contemplating seeking Transfer into Presbyterian High,
                      please note that
                      currently, no vacancy.

After Sec 2 year-end exam is over, you may contact school in October if keen, ask if any vacancy arise or if any Presbyterian High student has withdrawn from school.

Those students who are taking GCE "O" level Economics exam -

apart from awaiting for your Sec (3 and 4) Economics teacher in school to issue your teenager (son / daughter) past years’ PHS Econs papers to practise, 2 or 3 weeks before the due Term 4 EOY year end October exam,

                        where do you all buy
TYS (Ten year series) O level Econs paper,

                        for past 10 years (2011 to 2020) , to self-practise at home ?
