It’s very very normal to be stressed out … my worst results in my whole secondary school life was when I was in Sec 1 (looking back, I don’t understand HOW I could have done so badly since everything was much easier then lol)

Ahh it’s okay! You’ll get used to it! (and honestly speaking, it really hinges on time management; after a while you’ll realize that you can just do a crap job for certain things and still get by but you’ll need to make sure others are perfect). Anyway, it’s better to be busy in Secondary School rather than JC; opportunities are much rarer and you’ll be much more busy (I’ve stayed back til 11+ twice already).
I really don’t remember what my Sec 1 schedule was like but here’s my Sec 4 one:
Mon: School ends at 2:30, Piano until 4:30, by the time I get home it’s around 5:00
Tues: School ends at 2:30, CCA until about 5:00
      Wed: School ends at 2:00
      Thurs: School ends at 2:30
Fri: School ends at 2:30, CCA until 6:00
Sat: Yangqin from 10:30 - 11:30am, Tuition from 4:30-6:30pm, go to Grandma’s house for dinner, go home at about … 10:00.
Sun: Church from 11:30 - 1:30, if I’m on duty, 8:30 - 1:30/4:00 (depending on whether we have a meeting after serving)
What really killed me was the fact that I had nearly no weekend to do my homework at all (I crammed in on wed and thurs haha).
Just relax and support your kid! 🙂 Most people take a while to adapt so bad grades are pretty normal (I got a C5 for History in Semester 1)

hi micko07, thanks for sharing and I do realised many of her primary school classmates are not doing well in the first semester.

Once school re-open next week, her schedule is even tighter. Every day she is staying back in school for something. And while waiting for her piano results which would be out 3 months later, I temporary stop her piano lesson to give her some breathing space.

I always hear parents saying that once their kids enter sec school, they will leave them to manage on their own.

Study wise maybe (the syllabus is
so different from ours) but emotionally, I think our poor kids still need
our guidance and support, especially those in sec 1 bec everything is new
to them and they are still orientating to the new and so stressful school
          life.

I agree, cos when my eldest son was in Sec 1 - 2 yrs ago I was kind of worried whenever hes not back by 3pm. I will call the sch n check - later on I realised that the sec sch life is normal for them to come back late. In fact Im seeing less n less of him now. We definitely have to support them emotionally and academically, they still need our guidance. I still give my son a hug once in a while just to boost his morale.

              Hi there,

My daughter is sec 1 in an IP school too.

She's very busy too - project, CCA, homework and stuff.. But generally she seems to be enjoying herself. 😄
My girl is also in co-ed IP school.
Busy but she also seems to be enjoying herself.
SHe is also the chairperson of the class....her only grouse is that the boys are uncontrollable in class

hi flametree & spring5, nice to see 2 year 1 girls here with me.

I also feel that busy schedule is better than too free. I think its a matter of transition period and once they get use, they should be fine. I am glad to see improvement on my girls's attitute and adaptation to this transition. Every night, she has plenty to talk about her school, classmates, teachers till I yawn 😄

                  Hi daisyt,

My girl is also in sec1 IP school. I remember you are staying in Woodlands. Does your daughter take public transport to school. My girl spends 2hour+ every day to and from school. Aiyoh, so stressful…

She gets up at 5:30am and comes back home after 7, except Friday.

Hi chengsmummy, yes I am ! So happy to meet someone similar. Which school she is in ? 2 hour + thru and fro or just go ?

My girl also wake up at 5:30am, leave at 6am, because she is very kiasu, wants to reach school early type. Same same lor, reach home very late. At first she was very stress and tired but now she is already getting use. Weekend is her beauty sleep time, can sleep till 8+ or 9. 😄

                      Hi daisyt,

                      My daughter is in RGS.

She took school bus to school in the morning, which will pick her up at 6:10, she is same KS loh, insists getting up at 530, end up sitting on the sofa waiting for the bus coming.
She took MRT or bus back to home.

hi chengsmummy, so good, have school bus. No need to stand or squeeze in our \"first class\" public transport like my girl. 😄

True, life is stressful. Last night, before she went to bed, she was telling me, \"Today, I am so physically and mentally drain up ! Sigh ... but thank goodness, tommorrow is Friday\".
