:thankyou: same travel time. Straight bus to swiss. Have to take train and then a bus for crescent.
That's why confused.
Thanks in advance.
If you ask me single-sex is better than co-ed, but it's personal preference. So discuss with your child.

Also good to look closer at the CCAs each school has to offer and discuss with your child which one she likes.

Minister also mentioned COP will likely fluctuate +/- 1AL.

My child has scored 6(P)

He is aiming for RI but likely balloting will be required.

1st choice : RI
2nd choice : HCI
3rd choice: Cath High
Any advice?

Merit come first before citizenship & choice order

So foreigner 8(D) will get first before SC 8(M) to SAP school like DHS
Although the foreigner 8(D) put DHS as 6th choice and the SC 8(M) put DHS as 1st choice

For non SAP school like VS, there's no HCL priority, SC 8 w/o HCL will get first before foreigner 8(D)
Although the foreigner 8(D) put VS as 1st choice and the SC 8 put VS as 6th choice.
Thanks... I'm clearer now... but not very happy as it means we will be sending kids to schools they don't really like to go to. Sheesh. :siao:

Citizenship tie-breaker comes before choice order, so does not matter if local did not put VS as 1st choice.

Now I'm getting more confused. Let's go back to the original problem where the students do not have the same schools in the same priority, ie. Foreigner has Victoria as the first choice and Local has Dunman as his first choice. Are you saying that the local guy will get Victoria while the foreigner gets Dunman, just like iRabbit says?

Foreigner will lose out to local provided local was not posted to Dunman with his 8M and need to vie for the place in VS.
but at the same time if foreigner did not get the place in VS and vie for the same place in Dunman, then he will win with his 8D. So it's like chicken and egg? and depends on what other students score and choice order, cannot assess in isolation.

I wonder how MOE is going to sequence the pool of students with same AL but different HMT score?
To VS they are the same but to DHS they are ranked into 8D, 8M and 8P.
Maybe like someone mention they will need some algorithm and logic loop and need to re-run a few times to be sure.
Sad to say, most of the elit schools have many foreigners and PR. These are the group of people did very well ($$) and put Singaporean children in a disadvantage position. You seldom see a blue collar's kid get into elit school compare to old time.

The so call all schools are good schools are invalid because the ratio of people being successful in life between the elit and neighbour schools are too wide.

Even with Singaporean first, not many local children meet the requirement.

When I pass by or visit the following school, below is my opinion:
Look at RVHS, it is as good as China School.
Look at RI, never see so many Indian in the School.
Look at Hwa Chong/NYGHS, it is looks like a Rich School. The countless trail of luxury cars waiting to drive into the school.

And many more.

Totally agree with you. After the first day of school, my ds told me tt he was surprised tt many of his classmates called their mum after class and spoke in Mandarin with China accent. My ds told me tt the Prc parents setup their own parent class chatgroup without the local parents. When I attended PTM or some school events, I was also surrounded by PRCs mums. I feel sad tt many local kids would have been \"squeezed\" out by these richer, highly educated and more resourceful parents who could afford expensive tuitions for their children. What Ri's ex principal said about Ri becoming a middle class school is really true.

Myth
1) All new immigrants are rich
2) All new immigrant kids are smart
3) Rich = smart kids
4) You need to be rich to be smart.

A child is a reflection of their parents. If parents doesn't embrace diversity and differences, so will be their children
Dun agree with the myths completely, but support your end statement.

Once there was this group task on hawker centres. No one knows what to do cos they never been to one. So my kid shouldered it and submitted.

I wonder whether KSP can summarise all the questions and answers of this thread and publishing a book called "Directory of Selecting Schools under the new PSLE AL score system" for next batch of PSLE students as there are so many information are provided these few days.

Conservative strategy. Likely to end up at RI or HCI.

1st choice : RI (AL6-259)
2nd choice : HCI - (AL7D-257)
3rd choice: Cath High (AL8M-252)

Go for his dream school. He could be balloted in, plus there’s always the appeal option if cut off is 6.

Don't you wish there is a web service where you just put in your AL score and your address and up pops your 6 nearest secondary schools that you can apply to? 😂 It doesn't seem to be so difficult to build.
