There are definitely kids travelling 1 hour+ each day. It's not uncommon but not sure how common either. Is it ideal? No. Can it be managed? Yes. Is it worth it? Everyone will have a different answer (kind of depends on how near your other options are).
.....
total traveling time will be 1hr 15mins there about
any students spending this much time traveling?
just wondering the toil it has on the kids and if it’s uncommon
One thing to keep in mind is the days get longer in upper sec. On the other hand, the kids may be more efficient at studies by that point. I also think there is a difference on how efficient/effective different kids can be while on public transport. If you can do work or revise then or alternatively use this period as all of your relaxing/down time it may not be so bad.
Hopefully someone can give you more detailed reply on exactly what it was like for their kid traveling 1 hour 15 mins for 6 years (apologies but I can't help here). -

Try this website: gothere.sg
anyone staying near Yio chu kang/ sunrise estate area near Amoy Quee Camp?
we are considering HCI but distance is a challenge
nearest mrt is YCK or Lentor but we need to take bus down to YCK/Lentor before starting the mrt journey

Since your nearest MRT is TEL and NSL, while HCI is along DTL, takes very long to change over.
Faster to take bus + bus instead. A lot of my HCJC friends commuted from all over Singapore using bus + bus method. -

Are u able to send the boy every morning as I heard hci starts rather early? If yes then I think your boy can leisurely take public transport home? Otherwise you can explore the boarding sch. My friend's son stayed in the boarding school previously before covid times.

thanks all for the advice!
yes i have also spoken to my boy about how he can make use of the traveling time to relax or unwind
whether HCI or DHS, the journey from our hse is an hr or so, regardless
we arent able to send him as my younger child in P2 studies in Punggol and also starts 7.30
we are trying the mrt route, to tan kah kee mrt its not that bad as my hubby can drop him off at YCK mrt, or he can take 852 from yck interchange
any idea where do they enter school from? Chinese High Main Gate? or the Chinese High bus stop along bukit timah road?
thank u! -

Hello! I have the same problem as you. We are at Punggol and we took the mrt on Friday to try the route. We realized that Year 1 students have to use the gate that is further up, opp National JC (bus stop 41071). We are trying to see if taking a bus from say, Little India will be faster.
thanks all for the advice!

As mentioned, I don’t think the HS boys can enter at the gate right next to TKK MRT station. I believe most will take a bus down 2 stops to Opp NJC and enter there (this is two gates down). Good news is there are a lot of buses that go this route from TKK.
Other option is to walk to the first gate from TKK (think this is the Chinese High gate and closest to Chinese High bus stop). It is not far but not close either.
If you are already on a bus, I think the shortest walk is if you exit at Opp NJC, not Chinese High bus stop. -

You must bear in mind the traffic along Bt Timah Rd in the morning. Taking bus from Little India may not be faster.
