They already lose out for many years. After the IP programme was introduced, the college fear losing even more. Therefore it is a very wise step for them to start taking IP students from year 1. I suspect in the end, it is the teacher's quality that is going to attract students, not anything else. In this aspect, schools like NJC, RV, Dunman high will lose out since they have no autonomy to employ any teachers they want. And if certain teacher don't fit well into the school, it is also harder for the principal to get the MOe and post him/her out.

Not sure about the teacher quality in those schools. My son is in a Indepent IP School. So far, I am happy with the teachers and trust them more than the primary school teachers. We can see the differences.

That is why RI/RGS/HCI/Nanyang are having a edge over RV and Dunman high. The independent schools can employ their own teachers. It is also obvious the students/teachers ratio is better in the independent schools. NJC is doing some funny thing...they also depend solely on the goverment for resources but they manage to reduce the students/teacher ratio for the direct yr 1 IP batch. How is this so? You think about it...they are sacrificing the other part ( a large part) of the college. Well...this is call elitism.

Don’t forget about the fees charge by the independent IP schools .Its almost 10 times more than the non-independent ones.

I don't have the exact ratio but certainly they have much more teachers. Schools fees 10X more doesn't necessarily mean that you get 10 times better quality because the government is also pumping big resources into RV/Dunman and NJC but they still lose by small hair line to RI/HCI. If RI/HCI faimily having so much resource and autonomy still cannot beat, then finish liao....and then, independent schools always can employ a few more admin staffs to help teachers relief of their workload.....I have a colleague whose husband use to teach in NJC but resigned recently because the school always load him with 'this and that\" which are not related to delivering quality teaching. The independent schools can always reduce such problems and make the teachers more happy and deliver better teachings.

But RV and Dunman also have some very good teachers...that is why they are what they are despite government school status.

Hi daisyt, the indpendent schools should be slightly better. As I said, the government is also pumping in alot of resource into the non-independent IP schools, that close up the difference. You know, HCI has 300 over teachers...that is alot alot of teachers. The class having 30 students doesn't mean the ratio is 1:30. They have teachers to take students for special research projects etc.....As non-independent IP schools, they have to squeeze the teachers instead of hiring a few more teachers.

Hi daisyt, I think you must have experience yourselves during your school time. Some teachers just want to finish the syllables but some very special teachers will explain concepts more clearly and they do a few extra things that help students learn better.

Daisyt, in the past, posting of teachers are random..well..almost...so it is true no matter what school you go to, ther will be very motivating teachers and some just teach. But, if it is not random, but a conscious selection, do you think there will be more teachers of the motivating type? For me, I think so.

As many parents indicated in the parents-teachers meeting in my son's school, they cannot put much trust in the primary school teachers and have to put their child thru enrichment and tuition classes. That's was the way for them to make it to the top schools. But with the teachers in the IP School, so far we do not see the need to give extra tuition or enrichment programs. The teachers to student ratio is about 30:1 and there are 2 form teachers assigned to each class. In primary school, it is 40:1. The independent schools also have much more Enrichment activities as compared to the Primary schools. It is more than enough for the child.
