That’s what I am saying, there is a ready campus at woodlands with full facilities and running track/stadium and next door is SSP with swimming facilities. Innova is huge. Why doesn’t ACSP come here instead. The far north needs good schools as well.
For merger of JCs, I believe the reason is that student enrolment in JCs is falling. Catchment area is not so important at JC level. Why an older campus was chosen, I have no idea, but I expect the newer campus will be used for something eventually. Some savings in combining resources (staff, etc) were probably made.
To get back on topic: I don't think that the plan is necessarily to have \"branded\" schools in every HDB estate, but that there should be sufficient schools spread out. Since ACPS was asking for a move, MOE probably suggested school sites that were becoming available. -

AL COP is determined by the AL score of the last student with the lowest score.
JURONG Sec is AL18 while ACS is AL22.
At Jurong Sec an AL19 and above will not be eligible while at ACS an AL22 student will still be accepted.
AL standard is the same regardless if student is affiliated or not and that is the best way to determined the academic standard of sec school. And this contradict your statement that prime district school have higher standard or COP.
Jurong Sec is not the only neighbourhood school with AL COP standard higher that acs AL22.
A student who got into Jurong Secondary School so long as his AL score does not reach AL10 does not stand a chance to get into ACS Barker. From that perspective, ACS Barker definitely has a higher COP.
If there’s no change to the affiliation policy, I can safely tell you the affiliated COP for MGS will be at AL17 and ACS Barker at AL22 for those taking PSLE this year. The affiliated COP is pre-determined by the board and not set by the last student who got in. So please don’t confuse the 2 concepts.
Again you choose to twist my words. I repeat my views, location of the school matters and I only cited the case of River Valley as a what-if scenario while the historical case of Hwa Chong JC is cited as a validation of my views.
If you insist on your line of arguing, just do a geographical distribution of the top schools in S’pore to see where they are situated. We let the objective facts tell the story -

But maybe the building and facilities are not suitable for a primary and SPED school? Or it's been earmarked for something else? I don't know, and I'm not trying to second-guess. Perhaps you should address this question to ACSP and MOE.

Think about those Singaporeans staying at Tengah, Bukit Batok and Jurong Area. Why a Government - aided school cannot be shifting to Tengah area. We are also taxpayers to the Government. Why a school have to stay in the present campus and serving the school alumni and the wealthy families staying in Bukit Timah area Forever? If I now put up a petition for supporting the shifting of ACSP to Tengah Area via online, I believe the signatures which will be received - will outnumber the petition for asking it to stay in the present campus. A Government - aided school should be able to shift to anywhere in Singapore.
Bishan very far flung meh?
I stay in Novena and I only need 10 mins to drive to Bishan or just 3 MRT stations away. On the other hand, where exactly is Tengah? Seriously I have no idea. The petition used “far flung” to describe the location.
And I didn’t state that prime location equals to higher academic standards, my only assertion is that location matters to school. An actual case comes to mind, when Hwa Chong JC was required to relocate to a temporary site in Bukit Batok back in the early 1990’s, the school’s COP took a hit for a few years and only recovered when it moved back to its Bukit Timah site.
ACSP in Tengah could well be a good school but would it be better than had it stayed put in Barker Road? I doubt so and so do all the ACSP alumni and parents. Which is why there is a sense of disquiet among this group. -

I doubt the intention is to have “branded” schools in every estate. However, if some schools develop into “branded” schools, so be it.
…
To get back on topic: I don't think that the plan is necessarily to have \"branded\" schools in every HDB estate, but that there should be sufficient schools spread out. Since ACPS was asking for a move, MOE probably suggested school sites that were becoming available.
The more logical decision is to based schools (relocation) on population density and urban development. For older schools that are based in the city and seeking a move whether for re-development or rejuvenation, the location offered by MOE / government is likely to follow those principles. I don’t see anything unusual about ACS since it had been the same situation with ATS, CHS, MTS, SNGS, TNS and many others. ACS is just a new inclusion to that list.
I think the issue is mainly with which ACS to move and going co-ed but that’s really up to their BOG to decide and based on whatever factors that they think make sense. At the end of the day, if you move ACSP, prospective ACSP parents will kpkb because they will be affected and will surely ask why not ACSJ. On the other hand, if you move ACSJ, prospective ACSP parents will kpkb because they will be affected and will surely ask why not ACSP. -

ACS affliation COP is AL22 while Jurong AL COP is AL18.
Just because ACS non affliated COP is AL10 that doesn't mean the school standard is AL10. It only means the ACS studentd are given special privilege.
If ACS doesn't offer affiliation cop for acsp and acsj students, I reckon half of the acs cohort may not even make it to ACS sec with AL10 PSLE. -

Emm… I never say cannot move to Tengah ah. It is not up to me to say anyway. I see two groups of parents looking from two different perspectives.

有人欢喜、有人愁
One group is of cos residents of Tengah cheering the decision as the relocation of ACSP may also help bring up the prices of the properties there.
But for ACSP old boys, they feel sad because tradition, school culture will be lost with the intake of girls. Not to mention that ACSP seems to be getting the short end of the stick with this relocation.
Guess we won’t be able to fully understand unless we are old ACSP boys ourselves. Perhaps this is what people call having strong School Pride. -

Of course lah !
people who have never studied in ACSP before, never ever an alumni before,
especially those living in / near Tengah, inclusive of potential
(Grand parents + parents),
will definitely desire ACSP, a GEP school to shift there lah, for their own selfish personal, coveted MOTIVES ! Hence, always keep
harping and keep repeating the same old identical question, over and over again, every now and then, on
WHY huh,
WHY CANNOT shift to Tengah, because it's so plain for all to see, who dont know, is for their own advantage mah !
Because they themselves are NOT in the shoes of the ACSP alumni mah, so they will never ever be able to understand.
Why then,
only alumni can feel the sorrow and pain ?
Because
you can try posing this same qn to ALL alumni, not just from ACSP alone,
but
to ALL the alumni from these good schools named, including :-
\"If one day, suppose there is a change in plan, say,
MOE were to shift these good schools named below, all the way from current site to Tengah, all alumni inclusive from
(Nanyang, RGPS, Catholic High, Nan Hua, St Hilda, Rosyth, Taonan, Henry Park, Ai Tong, Chongfu, Nan Chiau, Rulang, Kong Hwa, Maris Stella, Maha Bodhi, St Nick, SCGS, MGS, PLMGS, ACS Junior),
come on, all Phase 2 Alumni members, from all these named out schools,
how would u all (alumni) feel,
apart from
jolly well knowing that Tengah residents will benefit & be clapping their hands in glee with joy ? \"
Let us do not be afraid, to speak out
and to stand up for the Alumni members, from the good schools ! -

Don't be misleading, the new campus of ACSP is not really near to my house (>2 km) and I am not having any advantages from this shifting.
A Government aided school is operated for all kids in Singapore and not only for the school alumni members.
What is the tradition and school culture? Is it only establish for the boys from alumni members? With the progress of era, this kind of tradition or culture are still worthwhile to preserve?
I believe the whole issue is - some of the rich and alumni members are not happy because the privileges which they have enjoyed for decades are going to be gone. Don't say it is the culture or tradition...., it is the loss of interest and privileges which cause them to jump up.
