Overseas Short Vacation
-
just wanted to ask if anyone has tried short trips to nearby cities like Kuala Lumpur or Batam recently? Iβve been thinking of planning a quick weekend getaway, and wondering if the travel process is smooth now, especially with kids. Would love suggestions on fun spots that donβt require too much planning or long travel time.

I believe those incidents happen based on pure chance. And given that people have been scared awake by the incident, it is likely that Bangkok may be even safer now then ever. I think Philippines and Vietnam has the same level of \"security\" compared to Bangkok.
Hi! Hubby and I are planning to go to Bangkok, TH for 7th anniv on Dec but due to recent shooting incident, will have to change plans. Can suggest other destinations in Asia? Some of our options are Philippines and Vietnam. Thanks in advance!

Agree with CKS - similar incidents could happen anywhere. I wouldn't change plans for Dec based on this one incident. But if the OP wants to avoid Bangkok, there are still other parts of Thailand. My family is heading to Chiangmai next week. There are also places in Indonesia and Malaysia to consider.

I've never been to Chiangmai. Me mountain tortoise. The closest I've been to Chiangmai is Bangkok. Thailand is a very strange place for me. It seems like everywhere you want to go is very close to you but yet you know it's many times larger than Singapore. :scratchhead:

I see. It was actually my idea to change destination...cant help but be paranoid due to incident. But I somehow agree with you that security probably has tightened. Might still consider going to Bangkok but will see for the next few weeks (i'm an overthinker lol). Hopefully situation really got better bcoz really want to try tom yum at Jeh O

I've spoken with friends who live there now, and the incident in Bangkok has not affected anything. After all, we get murders and fights in Singapore, and it really doesn't have much effect after the initial few days of shock.

It really depends on the causality of the event. If there is an ongoing war or rebellion (eg. IRA, several African countries, Ukraine, β¦), I donβt think I need to warn anybody not to go.
In this Thailand case, it is a one-off incident. So the chance of it repeating is low, and public and police are on high alert. Go on and safely enjoy your holiday! -
