Reminds me of my early years travel in Paris & the hotel had steep & narrow stairs. There’s no bellboy to help with luggages. I had to lug ‘3 levels’ which turn out to 6 floors up due to 2 bldgs connected. Old bldgs still like that I suppose. Those were the days I suppose.
Haven't been to Japan so haven't seen any in person. But this looks like quite a lot of staircases in the UK!
Kiasu me, I’ll make sure I book with lift landings & even msg them before making pymts to ensure we’ve a lift landing unit. Japan travel guideThat definitely brings back memories! Those narrow, steep staircases in older buildings can be quite a workout, especially with luggage in tow. I’ve learned to double-check hotel details to avoid surprises like that, but sometimes it’s all part of the adventure. Kiasu or not, it’s always good to plan ahead!

Japan is a very beautiful country. March and April are suitable for viewing cherry blossoms in spring, and falling leaves in autumn. If you like history, go to Kyoto or Osaka. If you like the tropics, go to Okinawa, and if you like winter, go to Sapporo. Here is a guide for reference.

We’re planning a similar trip for early November too. Still can’t decide between package and free & easy, but leaning towards F&E since it gives us more time to explore at our own pace.
I’m thinking of spending one or two nights in a ryokan somewhere outside Kyoto. It’s a bit more traditional futon beds, tatami mats, onsen but it looks like a nice break from the city hotels.
Haven’t booked anything yet, still reading up on which areas are family-friendly and easy to reach by train.

I went to Tokyo from late Nov to early Dec 2025 last year, and the exchange rate was really good, about S$1 to ¥119. Everything felt cheap, cheap compared to my honeymoon trip to Hokkaido back in 2010.
All in, including JAL return flights, an 8D7N hotel stay in Shinjuku, all meals, public transport (including the Shinkansen experience and first class ferry ride), attractions, and shopping, we spent about $12k for five of us - two adults and three teenagers.
Considering how expensive Japan used to feel, this trip was honestly very value-for-money

Does anyone know Sapporo is stroller friendly ? Hoping to bring my kids there… thx
