How Are You Keeping Up With the News?
-
My 19yo has applied to unis abroad, and she lamented last week that she feels very uninformed about current affairs.
We do talk about things around the dinner table, but I think for me and my husband, we have very different ways of getting our news.
So here’s how I keep up:
- On IG, I’m subscribed to NYT and Al-Jazeera for international news. I check out other things that come up on my feed, or whatever friends share
- On Spotify, my go-to podcasts are NYT’s The Daily (US-focused but they cover global news sometimes, and they make it very accessible) and the Ezra Klein Show
- For local news, I’m subscribed to Jom. Have to admit that I sometimes rely on friends to keep me informed, and occasionally I check CNA
Let me know how you do it!
To add: A snapshot of Jom’s coverage, as I think its readership is still quite small

I think the weekly newsletter used to be free, but now it’s subscription only (I started subscribing last year)

These days I just ask ChatGPT
DeepSeek, Gemini and copilot

@MsHuppy Do you use different tools for different purposes, or have any preferences?
I just learned today about how NotebookLM is pretty impressive for learning: I loaded in some course notes and could generate a fairly decent explainer video for myself within minutes! It can also create podcasts, infographics on anything that we want to learn about, if we feed in that info.
Previously I mostly stuck to ChatGPT since I have a subscription!
